Its getting more and more doubtful it will happen, especially in these economic times, and the competition against it from many directions is huge!

I've said it all along for the last two years this has been on the tables- use the bloody Opera House as an Opera House and keep the premier Palace as a number one lyric theatre.

Salford have put forward a very strong fist against the proposal.

Salford have just back tracked (The Lowry) saying its fine as long as the new Opera House just takes Opera and the Lowry continue to be the 1st stop for new Ballet.

Also the strength has grown in the council thanks to a take over of the arts role by someone who is even more in favour of it

A new proposal is now been put together woking out all the kinks

Saw Hairspray last night in London, scrolling back to find the Brian Conley thread, but remember seeing the show towards the end of Michael Ball run and sitting in the cheap day seats at the front, I could see Michael waiting in the wings, to come back on stage, he had the biggest sparkle still in his eyes, those going to see him on tour are in for a treat.
