(just posted this over at ATC, sorry for the cut and paste but I'm late for work!) I just got off the train from Baltimore (which is quite painless by the way...the train that is) the show was fabulous! I was shocked at how well it looked and sounded for a 1st preview, they're really getting the Broadway production...Marc & Scott and Jerry Mitchell and Jack O'Brien were all there and seemed very happy afterwards...I can't think of a weak link in the cast, including Bruce Vilanch who can't duplicate Harvey's voice and takes, but got great laughs and might actually be kind of sweeter than Harvey...his Edna is less confident than Harvey's which makes it wonderful to see him blossom...and that girl Carly is fantastic, they are so lucky to keep finding such great Tracy's! she has a very pleasing voice and is REALLY funny, the funniest I've seen and except for Katy Grenfell, I've seen all the Tracy's! The Jackie Hoffman girl still has work to do, but she had moments that let you know she will get it down...Jackie may end up being harder to replace than Harvey!! I have to get to work (very late!) or I'd write more, but I am glad I schlepped down there, it is wild to think that every night there are now 2 great versions of HAIRSPRAY to see...I just re-read this post and I sound like a shill, but I honestly had nothing bad to say about it! oh, and the audience reaction was as good as it is on Broadway, but the Baltimore references made them go berserk! Essex Community College brought down the house!
