Galinda, do you know how busy the lottery is for Drowsy?
I didn't think so, either DRS.

In the future one exclamation point will do. (!)
I'm going to second Company...the cast is amazing, and the singing will be very impressive, esp. for someone who's never seen a live musical.
Spelling Bee is also a good choice too. They also offer student rush.
Completely different options but both good choices.
Well, I'm presuming that this is a straight, youthful, musical-virgin type lad that's accompanying you to the theatre. If I am correct in this assumption, Wax Lion would suggest a musical that has a young(er), wide(r) demographic and a little bit on the alternative side (if there's really any such thing as "alternative" anymore). RENT, Avenue Q, Spamalot, Altar Boyz (why not something off Broadway?), Spelling Bee, perhaps Hairspray. Wax Lion did see Legally Blonde (out of town), and, although it has a few plot problems, was a fun show. Remember...you'll want to introduce him to something that will make him want to broaden his experience and come back again and again! Stay away from the slip-shot sugary stuff...for now, anyway. Save that for graduation, or at least until you've reached the heavy petting stage.
Good luck and love.

im not sure if your date would like drowsy. i saw it and thought it was cute but not mind blowingly spectacular. i wouldnt see it again but im gladd i saw sutton. i really love Spring Awakening. standing room looks just as good as orchestra...but you stand (obviosly). well u decide, if you live close to NYC, you can see more when you have a chance. all musicals are nice and entertaining.
I'd go for Spelling Bee. It's light, enjoyable, and M.U.E. is just great date material.
Spring Awakening!

definitely spring awakening.
it is a conversational piece at the least. you can't not talk about it!
and it appeals to all [sans little kiddies..].. and if he listens to any kind of music [and you said he was a college guy, so i assume he does!] i'm sure he'll enjoy the score from the show. it's very difficult not to!
and it will definitely be an experience that he won't forget!
good luck!

I think that I can help you out with this one.
First, If you've decided on Company, it is an excellent choice.
The show is about love, marriage, and dating. And trust me when I tell you that John Doyle's direction works so much better for this show. It's fun to watch, and the performances are just moving, and student rush is front row. Once the front row is sold out they student rush the box seats which I hear are also great. They sell 2 hours before and you can purchase two tickets with one student ID. Tickets are $36.50 I believe( so totally worth it).
If you're still a bit iffy about Company then I also suggest "In the Heights" it's off-broadway but it's still a great show. And a great show for a date. It makes you want to dance. It's really fun and has an inspiring story. Student Rush ticket are $20.00 for front row. The stage is on a bit of an elevated platform so you have to look straight up at times, but there isn't any other obstruction, except for a staircase into the audience cleverly disguised as a subway entrance. The only thing is that this tickets are one per ID so you both have to show up to get seats. A friend and I got there at 4:30pm to get tickets and the box office and cast of the show laughed at us as we waited. So you can show up at around 6:00, perhaps 6:30 and get tickets. If you call ahead at 6:00pm the box office will answer the phone to tell you if rush tickets are left over.
I have taken my date to Grey Gardens, but that was because she wanted to see it. I would think Jersey Boys would be great, if you are willing to get there by like 7ish. I went on a tuesday and we got there a little before 8 and we were the second people there. Company is great. I would say no to Spring Awakening if it was a first date, but that would be me and this obviously isnt your 1st date.
Thank you all so much for all of your help. I'm going with the popular suggestion and hauling my lazy butt to the city early to get Spring Awakening. If G-d forbid I don't when he and I go we'll rush Company. I know a few people siad 8 would be a good time to get there. Is that early enough since it's break for most schools? I hope it is!
Thanks again
She's just looking for as much feedback as possible from the posters here.
At least she's not making 10 million threads on cast recordings like bryan or pointless joke posts like Zeitoujo.

If this is someone that isn't into big shows,or musicals, you need to start small. I say Guttenberg the musical! It's the anti musical musical. My boyfriend who HATES musicals, loves it and wants to go back. It will make you pee your pants from laughter!
Whichever show you pick, relax and enjoy yourself. This guy obviously likes you and wants to spend time with you, so don't worry that this one experience will make or break his potential life-long love affair with theatre.
Make it a fun day and plan for dinner afterwards where you can talk about the show - what you each liked or didn't like about it. This can help you narrow down what he would like to see next time around. If you make it a fun enough experience, there will be a next time, no matter how this time goes! If you spend the day worrying whether or not he’s having the time of his life, you’re both bound to be disappointed.
When I started dating my husband he hated musicals – HATED them! Five years later, I can’t say that he has a cast recording collection or anything, but he really enjoys seeing shows. He likes the day out in the city, the good dinner we get after the show, and has found something he can appreciate in each show we see. I’ve been able to tailor our selections to fit both our tastes, saving shows he has no interest in for trips with my friends.
Have fun!
We saw Spring Awakening. GREAT show. Thanks for all the help!
You're welcome
I actually told you to see it from the beginning, you see that you didn't need to make such a big deal about?
