If I was going to go to three shows on a weekend in August - besides Hamilton (I saw it in May with original cast and am somewhat convinced that I never need to see another show for the rest of my life :))))) - what would they be?
I think I'd like to see Bright Star, Waitress, etc., but what are the best shows right now? Thank you in advance for any thoughts/opinions!

"Best" is subjective, unless you use shows that won awards for being the best (which is still subjective).
Take an hour and watch the promo reels for the shows that are playing, or that you're already interested in, and narrow down your list from "anything but Hamilton," and then you will get better guidance. And like Roxy said, many shows will close between now and August.
Otherwise this thread is just going to be everyone's favorite shows, which doesn't really help you. I suppose, unless you go by which shows get mentioned the most! So if we're playing it that way:
I always recommend Something Rotten. I love the current production of Fiddler.

I'd say try to get into The Color Purple. Saw that the weekend I saw Hamilton and I was blown away. Not that I didn't love Hamilton, but The Color Purple is an incredible, powerful experience. If you're looking for a fun show I'd recommend Something Rotten or On Your Feet. Shuffle Along was great too, some fantastic dance numbers.

Oh, just ignore Roxy. He's a Grinch when it comes to big hits.
DEFINITELY see The Color Purple
Other shows to consider: Something Rotten is cute, Fun Home is beautiful, Curious Incident is mind blowing (and set to close in Sept).
what else are you considering?

To Drama
Pardon me for not adhering to what you feel is worthy of a recommendation . I thought we had free will. Guess I was wrong. I know because I have not seen the show God created my opinion is valueless. From this point forward,I agree with whatever you say and bow down before your choices. It shall not happen again.
For the record, there are many hits I like such as Kinky,Les Miz,Phantom and many others. I liked She Loves Me as well.I also enjoyed Shuffle Along immensely.

"Best" is very subjective. What kind of show are you looking for? Do you want something high-energy and upbeat? Or you want an emotional story with heart? Do you prefer comedy or drama? Do you want a big production or are you open to something a bit more intimate? Are you just looking for musicals or are plays an option too? What kind of money are you willing to spend, i.e. are you ok to spend full price or looking for discounted tickets?
I don't want to just list my favorites but would like to try to give advice on what you might enjoy, and I need to know a little more for that :)

What kind of music do you like? If you like rock and roll, you're better off going with something like "School Of Rock", but if rock and roll isn't your thing, then you're better off going with something different.
Also, what type of show interests you the most? Do you like comedies or tragedies? Do your research and see what speaks to you. Do you have a personal connection to any of the shows? If it were me, I would go with "Spring Awakening" for two reasons: a.) it's done in American Sign Language (ASL) which I'm certified in and b.) I know one of the cast members from the original "Spring Awakening".....Alexandra Socha!
