hmmm i wish i had the voice u have, mine is close to that but not good enough to sound absolutely fantastic singing somewhere that's green...

anyway, for my last year's recital i was going to do GIMME GIMME, which you can get the track to, however since i didnt have enough time to order the track for it and get it shipped, i ended up doing one of my emergency songs, which is Always True to You In My Fashion from Kiss me Kate. listen to the song, it's good because it impresses people, and its got a bunch of belts, but also matches ur voice. although if this is for ur senior project or whatever, then i dunno if u'd consider this "hard enough" or not. also the fun thing about it is that u get to act a lot, it's a big band style song, it's upbeat, AAAND it's got a lot of witty double entendre going on too. in my recital i was up with a lot of opera trained singers who were a lot better than poor little musical-trained me, but i was definetely the one that got the most applause. the song is a real "breath of fresh air"...o, and make sure to get an outfit that matches the occasion jeje

that's my 2 cents

ps. whats wrong with singing defying gravity, granted that you have the voice capabilities? (possible song for my next recital)

I love your choices, Lippa and Jason Robert Brown are two of my favorite composers ever, I personally favor "Life of the Party" myself though lol. Anyway, I too agree that Wicked would be a bad choice, its WAY TOO overdone! Also, even though he is more into the ballad like songs you could look at anything by Yeston and look up the "16 bar theatre audition" for your range - they have 100 (I think maybe 200) pieces of good sheet music and you can find the TITLES almost anywhere, maybe you can find an idea from the online lists! Good luck!

When someone blunders, we say that he makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that all the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing. - Moliere

You should also think about Scott Alan's stuff. You can listen to a couple of songs on his website (www.scottalan.net). Home and Never Never Land may be good fits for your voice.

WickedKiwi, thank you for the suggestion. That is a wonderful song, but Porter is not a contemporary composer like I'm lookin for for my set. And there's nothing "wrong" with doing "Defying Gravity" at your recital, but it is just SO overdone right now, it is DEFINITLY NOT ok to do it at an audition, and I just don't want to risk it.
Touchme..., I'll look at that website ASAP. Thanks!
