Hey all! I have mostly graduated from UCLA, but all I have left is my senior voice recital. I need your help! My final set of the recital is Contemporary Composers. I'm doing Summer in Ohio-JRB, Tom- Michael LaChiusa, and a song by my roommate who is ridiculously talented. I need a closer! Something up and vocally impressive to end the show with. I think I am going to have my encore be "I'll Be Here" from Lippa's Wild Party. (Yes, it's a guy song, but it fits really well in my range) I'm a mixy soprano. I'm Audra-y and Christiane Noll-y. Any suggestions would be MOST appreciated! Thanks so much!
You look pretty in your avatar.

"Being Alive" from Company. I love the version Lea Salonga sings on her broadway cd. That would make a great ending.
defying gravity.
JUST KIDDING
What about "Who Will Love Me As I Am" from Side Show?

Well I don't know if you're allowed to have more than one song by the same composer but if you are you might want to try Live Out Loud from A Little Princess and See What I Wanna See from R. Shomon. Or maybe Sailing from A New Brain.
Megan, I would actually LOVE to do Defying Gravity, but no seems to think it is a good idea! :-P
Mattio- Is A Little Princess Lippa? Any idea if the music is available?

I'm not too familiar with female voices, but how about "Come to Your Senses" from ttB? Very pretty song, but may be a little too long...

I'm Christiane Noll-y too! How wonderful. :)
I actually like to look through her CDs for material. Two of my favorites (actually, both are originally sung by guys) are Marry Me a Little (if you want a Sondheim) and I Don't Remember Christmas (Maltby and Shire). But it sounds like you might be looking for even more recent material.
Oh, and I love Come To Your Senses as well.
I'll think on it and post some more later!

The song I'm in love with at the mo is Please Don't Make Me Love You, from Dracula.
Also, how about:
Unexpected Song (Tell Me On A Sunday/Song & Dance)

Our Time (Merrily We Roll Along)

Yes, Little Princess is Lippa. At least this version is. PM me.

If you feel comfortable belting some how about "A New Life" from Jekyll and Hyde (I am obsessed with that song lately and have been singing it all around my house all the time).
But "Someone Like You" is also great for "mixy soprano"
I've heard a lot about Witches of Eastwick on this site. I'm surprised I've never heard any of the music here in the states. Could anyone burn me a copy of the cd and send it to me? I will of course pay for shipping and whatever. PM me.
Come to Your Senses is a FABULOUS song, but I think it deserves more of a big belter than a mix. Someone Like You is also lovely, but way too overdone. Any more suggestions?
nothing from Lippa's Little Princess will be available for awhile. Witches of Eastwick might be your best option. Anyone suggest "Another Night At Darryl's"?

could you pull off 14G?
Meagan, yes, I could pull off 14G but that song has been officially ruined since my quasi-rival at school this past year sang it and beat me in a competition with it. (I sang "A Call From the Vatican" and "Unusual Way" from Nine.) We hate her, and I won't be able to do that song for a while! :-P

Can somebody please tell me what 14G is from?

It's from one of Cheno's solo albums. I believe it was written for her by Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlan when she was involved with Throughly Modern Millie although I don't think the song has anything to do with the show.
"Getting Married Today" from Company - have a friend be "Paul" - would be a funny finish.

Another idea is another song from Kristin's album...I believe it's called "Should I Be Sweet?"
It alternates between legit sounds and belt sounds. Fun song.
that's a great song but she said she needs new composers....most of the songs on Kristin's album were written a loooooooong time ago.
That sucks about your rival girl singing it...I'm sure you would have done better :p
There's always Taylor from Marcy and Zina
hmmm i wish i had the voice u have, mine is close to that but not good enough to sound absolutely fantastic singing somewhere that's green...
anyway, for my last year's recital i was going to do GIMME GIMME, which you can get the track to, however since i didnt have enough time to order the track for it and get it shipped, i ended up doing one of my emergency songs, which is Always True to You In My Fashion from Kiss me Kate. listen to the song, it's good because it impresses people, and its got a bunch of belts, but also matches ur voice. although if this is for ur senior project or whatever, then i dunno if u'd consider this "hard enough" or not. also the fun thing about it is that u get to act a lot, it's a big band style song, it's upbeat, AAAND it's got a lot of witty double entendre going on too. in my recital i was up with a lot of opera trained singers who were a lot better than poor little musical-trained me, but i was definetely the one that got the most applause. the song is a real "breath of fresh air"...o, and make sure to get an outfit that matches the occasion jeje
that's my 2 cents
ps. whats wrong with singing defying gravity, granted that you have the voice capabilities? (possible song for my next recital)
