Apparently, it is about Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) moving from Albuquerque to the Big Apple to get her big break on Broadway after being discovered by a talent scout... Interesting.

I'm just excited for this site to switch back to being HighSchoolMusicalWorld!
I mean, I love posting on the boards here on GleeWorld as much as the next guy, but sometimes you wanna see some other news.
I found Sharpay to be one of the only, if not THE only character imo on those movies, so I am a bit interested in seeing how this works out. They are saying it's HSM 5...but seriously..HSM4 Legit looks like utter ****. Atleast this is semi-original. Props to Ashley Tisdale. Would be nicer to see it head to theaters.

Semi-original? How is it original at all? It's basically the start of every actor's career.
Little divas like Sharpay don't get jobs that early in a career.

In this era of Spring Awakenings and Miranda Sings, little divas who are at all clever can get their names out quicker than ever.
While I never much liked the High School Musical series, I do have to say that separating Sharpay Evans from the rest of the HSM flock and making her a figurehead character is a big pop-cultural step for theater. This is the first mainstream pop-cultural figure who lives and breathes theater since Streissand in "Funny Girl."
The thing is, I know Ashley Tisdale was on Broadway when she was a kid, but she really doesn't have the kind of voice for tradiional musicals now, and I don't see how they're gonna make that concept work when they couldn't even make it convincing that she was good enough to get leads in her high school musicals.
I know that sounds really snotty, especially since it's not like I'm a great singer, either, but I actually do like High School Musical, and the 'singing' in the movies was always the weakest part of them to me. I'd much rather see Ryan going pro, anyway. Didn't his character wind up at Juilliard over Sharpay?
Yes, but his character is notably more "mellow," lacking the blind and obsessive dynamism of his sister.
And besides, do you really think Disney's gonna show a "traditional" musical on Broadway in a Sharpay Evans film?
