Was anyone at the mat on Saturday?
I'm looking for pics or videos of the be-in. My little girl was up there front and center with her hippies and my husband thought he was recording/photographing but he wasn't. UGH!

The show was great as usual. I can't get over the chemistry that Paris and Steel have. They are hilarious and heartbreaking and the whole nine. I wouldn't mind being an usher to see that happen every day. Sigh.
And I have to also say that Caren Tackett is the sweetest person I've ever met. They are all truly appreciative of any sort of positivity you bring to them, but she is so very genuine.

Sorry, I didn't take pictures, but your daughter was Baby Crissy? She's adorable. Tackett and Katie Kiyan looked so happy to see her.

I know you. I know you. I know you.

(EDIT: I wrote this before I saw that post! ^)

I don't have photos or anything but was your little girl dressed as Crissy? I saw a young girl at the stage door on her father's shoulders dressed as Crissy and it was so wonderful to see the show be appreciated by people of all ages.

Yes that was us!! Thank you so much :)
We were hoping that Caren could have brought her daughter, who's a little younger than ours, but she was telling me that the theatre had a policy of her needing a ticket and it couldn't happen.
At the risk of sounding like a crazy person, we've seen the show four times now.
When Hair was on the Tony's in 2009, my daughter was mesmerized. So we started listening to the music and talking about what the show meant. For about a year this went on and we went to see the Starshine tribe last June. That was great, but I knew we were missing out. Enter the tour... first stop in D.C. where we are from. I had a friend of mine make a Crissy shirt and we had seats in the front so we got a lot of attention which was awesome!! (no pants holding though. bummer!)
We also went to the show in Hershey because I figured that would probably be the last opportunity to see this cast. Then of course NY happened and who could miss that????
I just don't get tired of this show and neither does my husband and definitely not my daughter.
We'd love to come out again before they leave. However, NY trips are so freaking costly. I'm not so sure Philly in Feb would be the best idea!!
Anyhow, at the other shows we've been to we've gotten some great pics but not much of the be-in at the end because it's just over so fast. You want to enjoy it but at the same time you want to take pictures too. And they really shooed everyone off the stage quickly afterward!
Does anyone else have a big headache afterward from the emotional aspect? The end gets me every time and then all of a sudden it's this rejoicing be-in. Talk about taking a Prozac and a few advil at the same time!!!

I've seen it a few times this summer and every time I leave I feel that I want to dance through the streets of NYC but I also feel sad and upset about what is happening in the world around me. It's definitely a weird feeling but the show is so timelessly relevant and beautiful that I have this desire to keep going back.

It warms my heart that your daughter can understand and appreciate the show and its message. Some day when she learns about the Vietnam War in an academic setting, it will really resonate with her and that can be a beautiful thing. My sister is taking a trip to DC with her school in the fall. I took her to see HAIR on Saturday and told her to remember that the name of every single American on the Vietnam War memorial...well, they have a story like Claude's. I hope she is able to fully grasp how devastating that is.

There is so much to think about during the show.. how relevant it is and was, among other things. It's hard to quiet your mind sometimes so you can embrace the show for what it is, but once you get to the end it all comes back and well, you go into the ugly cry. My daughter gets teary at the end too but also told me that she gets upset when Berger shoves Claude. It's interesting what they pick up on.
When we bought our tickets for the DC show we visited the Vietnam War Memorial. I know she doesn't fully grasp it, at least the way we do, but it was easier to explain it to her because she knows Claude's story. We even looked for his name on the wall but oddly couldn't find a Claude. Then again she knows his last name so it might not have worked :)
If you haven't checked it out already, there is a Hair display at the Drama Book Store on W 40th.
Claude's draft notice is in the window with some other things. There's an interesting type-o in there and it also says "greeting" instead of "greetings" :)

It's such a special thing for you to share this with your daughter. I can't even tell you how much that inspires me and it gives me so much hope for that generation. I feel that nowadays, they all watch Jersey Shore and listen to Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, trying to emulate what they see and hear. The fact that she can truly love and appreciate such a beautiful piece of musical theatre... Well, that's really incredible and I hope that she continues to appreciate art like that in the future.

Thanks for telling me about the display! I'll check it out the next time I'm in the city. :)

I think you're a few dozen performances away from crazy.

Thanks, blaxx.. From what I've seen here and a few other places, I suppose we have a healthy relationship with this show!! I don't know that we'll be able to catch it again in NY which is a shame, but we'll try Philly in March perhaps. Hopefully it doesn't snow Hair Matinee on 8/6 anyone???
