On a opening week? And with those reviews? Hmmm.
In a deep recession, why should this be a surprise?
They cancelled Monday's performance and Opening Night was highly comped. If you look at the average price of the seats it isn't too shabby. This week will tell.
Also, people have plans and lives. They might not get tickets for two days later. Those people who would do that (would likely) be the ones who heard the word of mouth before the show was officially reviewed.
Why do you want Hair to fail?
Seriously!
This is an excellent and well-received production of an excellent show that may well (and should) become a hit in spite of the recession. Why do you only harp on the negatives with this show? It's doing pretty damn well considering the nature of the show, the location of the theater, and the fact that it JUST. OPENED.
Who wants hair to fail? U contraire !
I want it to be a huge monster hit.
Then stay positive about it like the rest of us who want it to be a hit are. It's doing well. Be happy about that.
There is no doubt... this will be a hit and I really hope I get to see it this summer!
"Then stay positive about it like the rest of us who want it to be a hit are. It's doing well. Be happy about that."
That is the most ridiculous thing to say. I love talking boxoffice and percentages and marketing. Far more interesting to keep things real.
But it's doing well! It only just finished it's opening week! 83% is not at all bad. It's not exactly the easiest of subject matters, no matter how popular it is as a show. It's not everyone's cup of tea, so the fact that it's doing this kind of business is great. The marketing is very good, the sales are steady, it has quite a few big-name raves under it's belt that will no doubt spread, and it's a shoo in for Best Revival.
No one said it wasn't doing well. No one.
You really do want HAIR to fail, DAME.
I love talking boxoffice and percentages and marketing.
Yeah, only for HAIR. You have never been interested in it for any other show in the past. You haven't even seen it yet. You rarely ever post on the Broadway Board. Of course you're entitled to. But suddenly, for this production, you're posting away on this board inquiring about its financials. There must be some reason behind it.
WBAF.. THAT IS JUST NOT TRUE.
I have a longtime interest in Hair. This is the first show in a long time that I have any interest in. Seeing this production next week and I am very excited. Ihave heard it is great. People I know and respect have loved it.
Say what you want.. but that chart still says it was only at 83 % . Don't take out your frustraion at me biotch!
You certainly seem like you want it to fail...
There is always a drop during opening week. This is not unusual. The performances are heavily comped for critics.
The average ticket price was $73.64, which is pretty impressive, and the production made about $35,000 less than the previous week because of all of the comped Orchestra seats that on any other week would be paid for.
Next week will tell.
The weeks following its Tony wins will really tell.
Now you know what I sound like?
I am so sorry if my attempt at discussion confused some of you people.
I hope Hair is a huge hit. God bless all of you.
And Wanna Be.. your last post is the attempt of discussion I was going for. Goodnight.
And this was your first post:
On a opening week? And with those reviews? Hmmm.
Well it sounds like my last post should be of some ease to your "Hmmm."
You can rest easy that HAIR is doing just fine, and the purpose of this thread has been defeated.
Goodnight.
WOW. Must have pushed a button. Girl.. that wasn't the purpose. But since it bothers you so much. I GUESS NOW IT IS.
Attendance for Hair on opening week was only 83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % ..83 % .....
No buttons. I have nothing particularly invested in this show.
PJ.. for you I have nothing but love.
FYI, Opening week percentage;
Wicked...88.7%
Billy Elliot...79.0%
Jersey Boys...63.5%
Excellent. I do remember when discount for Wicked were everywhere at te very begining. Billy still hasn't reached the steady 100 % club.
I seriously believe Hair will be a big hit this season. Friends who were skeptical about the show went to see it and immediately went back and bought tickets for a second go around. This has been the case more often then not with people I know who went to see it. Give it time and it will grow at the Box Office.
