You guys haven't been following. Dame got tickets before the reviews came out and then they came out and were so good, he was counting on the show selling out and tickets to be hard to come by. There's that extra thrill of having tickets to the hottest, sold outest show in town. He's looking for that extra endorphin rush a person gets when he has a ticket that others would sell their children to get their hands on. No harm there, it's part of the fun for some people. But it's like real estate speculators and house flippers. The economy has its impact.
Dame, I recommend not swinging by TKTS before the show. If you do, just don't look at the board.
PS "Hair" might also suffer after Isherwood called it an "also ran" and "the Yul Brenner of musicals" his guilty pleasure rave review of "Rock of Ages" today in the times.

Posted: 4/9/09 at 1:44amWell, in this economy and even at the percentage it is at, it is a "hot Ticket". Not everyone can afford even the discount prices. So stop saying it is only at 83% like it is not "A Hit". Pay attention to the economy and realize that, it is a hit. It is lucky right now to have those numbers.

Posted: 4/9/09 at 3:07amGiven the way things are this show is doing more then just okay. I honestly have the feeling that DAME started this thread just so that they could have bragging rights about how they have the hottest ticket in town and someone else they know doesn't. Kind of childish if you ask me.

Dame, I can understand wanting the thrill of having a ticket to the hottest show in town. I bought tickets for the Producers a week pre-Tonys when the buzz and sales were already high (the tickets were for Jan, six months in advance). After the Tonys, forget about it! I took my parents and my dad was so impressed that I had gotten tickets. It was pretty cool :).
I think sell-outs can happen, but the economy isn't helping. Billy Elliot is selling extremely well and in my mind, is a hot ticket, but you can walk up the box office day of and they will most likely have a ticket to sell you (it may not be a good seat). That may change come summer, of course. Even Wicked and Jersey Boys see their perfect attendance sell-out rate dip a bit during the slower months because $125 a seat is a lot to shell out for one night of entertainment.
I think Hair could be a very hot ticket this summer, but we'll see. I only wish it the best and it's on my list to see.

Just to provide some clarity to this issue: I was there last night (tickets purchased in early March) and the show seemed entirely sold-out. Mind you, this was a Wednesday night performance...I can only imagine what the weekends look like. I'm confident that next week's grosses will reflect this fact.
Having said that, the show has only grown stronger since previews and I am already planning my next (5th) return visit.

The insight of your honest feelings is staggering. (Did you actually read the whole thread?)

Wow. They really have stopped teaching reading comprehension in schools, haven't they?
But, I suppose it's possible that some of these folks simply haven't reached that grade yet.
Enjoy the show, DAME!

Actually Namo, I did read the whole thread before posting thank you very much. And, i still find what DAME is doing to be rather sad and pathetic. You have a ticket to a show that you want to see. Who gives a rat's ass if the show is the hottest ticket in town or not. You are seeing a show that you want to see and that should be the end of it.
What I do find sad is that DAME is crossing their fingers hoping that they can brag about and say " Ha ha, I have tickets to Hair and you don't. Nanny nanny poo poo." That attitude about the whole thing is what I find to be childish and rather immature.

As someone with zero interest in seeing Hair, I don't expect it to do well. Hair is a musical about teenagers in the 1960's. Does it have a story line? Its most recognized song, "Age of Aquarius," is about what, exactly? I'm sorry, but Hair just screams bland and uninteresting. Maybe that's why it isn't doing well.
Let the rock throwing begin. :)

No, the show really does not have a real storyline...more like mini plots. The story certainly has a place in today's society. Sex and drugs are very relevant today and well as war. Diane is aware that some of the material is outdated, and I think that she has done a great job with making the show connect with teens and young people today.
I am not sure about everyone else, but I keep going back and will continue to go back for the cast. They are completely in their own league compared to some other casts. Like everyone has been saying...it is more then a show, it is an experience. Each time I have seen the show, something different and unexpected happens. As far as the music goes, I believe the score is hit after hit (many recognizable songs( Let the Sunshine in, Good Morning Starshine, I got Life,) these songs have been remade many times. I think that the show is doing well now and within the coming months it will be doing better.
PS- where exactly are you sitting yay gerb.
