This isn't the best quality, but here's a video of the Toronto performing "You Can't Stop the Beat". Hope that helps!

Man does that clip ever make me miss the show in Toronto. It's like my drug. Never fails to give me chills when I see that number. I love how so many people know the choreography and can dance along in the audience.

Akiva, I have to admit, I'm guilty of dancing along in the audience during "You Can't Stop The Beat". Good to know I'm not the only one!

this may sound a litte weird, but the end of the song after Velma and Amber do their singing, that jump they do to "But you cannot stop the rythym of two hearts in love to staaay" I love it, for some reason it just looks cool to me.

Another quick question, I saw Hairspray about 2 1/2 years ago. How does the ending of the show go, do they finish with "Cant stop the Beat" and then do the Curtain Call and then do they sing "Cant stop the beat" again?

To answer your question bwayboi:
"You Can't Stop The Beat" ends with the streamers flying from the big Ultra Clutch can and then the lights go out. After several seconds, the lights come back on, there is a curtain call for all the performers, and then they all stand in a line and sing the "Good Morning Baltimore" reprise which ends with Tracy saying "Everybody, let's dance!" They then perform the final verse of "You Can't Stop The Beat" with slightly different choreography. Finally, Amber is seen giving the Miss Teenage Hairspray crown to Tracy, and they hug. The end!
If I'm off on any of this, someone please correct me!

I've got a question about the ending...has it been reworked in the last year or so?? I remember seeing it for the first time back in March....and I remember them dancing in the aisles to YCSTB and I remember there being a big fuss here on BWW about this version of the ending and the mics having to be turned off to do this, etc. and someone (I wanna say Marc Shaiman) posted they were going to rework the ending and take this dancing in the aisles bit out...
Am I crazy? or has the ending been reworked since I first saw it?

I've seen the show ALOT in the past two years and haven't ever seen them dancing in the aisles during YCSTB. I mean, Tracy and Penny and some of the others start off in the aisle, but they run up on the stage.

I saw it way back when it opened, and clearly remember people dancing in the aisles.
I saw it again last year in early november, and there was no dancing in the aisles and the song was followed by a curtain call and nothing else. *shrug*

It's so fun to watch, but I bet it's a bitch and a half to actually perform.

I would actually have a lot of fun doing this number, for some reason Tracy is my favorite in this number then she is in the whole show. I just love her facial expressions and everything else she does (at leat when I saw Carly Jibson and Leslie Kritzer do it)
Also, I heard Michelle Kittrell is the new Tracy understudy, can this be confirmed by anybody, or is it just another rumor. I actually can see her in the role, hell I can see Michelle in any role :)

The current Tracy understudy on Broadway is Michelle Dowdy. I saw her on 12/3 and she was great.

I think Michelle Kittrell is the swing and Michelle Dowdy is the understudy, unless something changed in the past few weeks.

Cenoern- I saw the show a couple times during it's first year and Broadway and didn't see them dancing in the aisles... Odd...
If Lincoln were alive today, do you think he'd be pleased with his tunnel?

Wow, that Toronto clip was better than the tony's performance!

The Toronto cast was vibrant and full of the exact exuberant energy needed to pull off this peice. Although the singing in this clip isn't the greatest example of their abilities. I have heard them sing a LOT better.
