The Four seasons should count as Broadway.

Yep. Jersey Boys. re: Hairspray Audition

Try looking into Jersey Boys a bit.
You could do Cry For Me.
Its a lower range song.

re: Hairspray Audition

Ya.. I kinda love when people walk in to auditions and announce that they're doing "Dancing Queen" from Mamma Mia. Clue phone: it's not from Mamma Mia. It's an ABBA song that happened to be featured in Mamma Mia, and that doesn't make it a showtune.

If you want to do Dancing Queen, fine! If it shows off your voice, great. If you can act it and it sounds good, you should sing it, whether its from a show or not. Many people land Broadway gigs with not-from-shows songs. However, don't kid yourself and announce it as "from Mamma Mia". Hilarious..

Do anything written by Neil Sedaka. His style is very much like Hairspray

I've heard "Two Lost Souls" from DAMN YANKEES! performed by a sole guy who sped up the tempo and crammed the song into 2 minutes. It was absolutely a thrilling performance to watch. I don't know if I can recommend it, but I'd definitely try something fresh and new if you can. Stay away from audition staples like BIG RIVER, ANNIE, INTO THE WOODS, JOSEPH, PHANTOM, etc.

You could do something from All Shook Up.

re: Hairspray Audition

if you need a broadway show tune with a 50ish sound try "Loves Revenge" from "Two Gentlemen of Verona". Simple 4 chord change song with a nice rock beat.....there are other similar songs in the score....."Night Letter". intereting songs that get the attention of the people at the audition table, since they probably have never heard these numbers before. Used them several years ago with much success
