I found a picture of Marissa in an outfit from "you cant stop the beat" and its a fringe black and white sequined striped jail ensemble. When did she wear this?
Ive always seen her finale costume as being the pink outfit. I mean I know in previews she had a different pink costume then the one used now... but this fringe one has me perplexed. Anyone know?

I'm fairly sure that dress was used in a few previews during "You Can't Stop the Beat". I'm glad they changed it; it's hideous and doesn't fit in at all.

Its very odd.

Posted: 4/15/06 at 9:13pmI'm almost positive that's the Broadway stage with the cutout for the orchestra. That dress is so horrible it's almost FUNNY!!!

Posted: 4/15/06 at 9:25pmI believe that dress was used during previews in Seattle. Those screencaps are from a bootleg that I happen to own.

Posted: 4/15/06 at 9:50pmPerhaps the point of it was that Tracy was supposed to be in jail and had broken out, so it was a "dressed up" version of her jail costume, but I agree that it's hideous and I'm so glad they changed it.

the costume was used during the early parts of the broadway run. The producers thought the polka dotted pink dress used in previews was too clowny, so they tried this one. Later, they decided to try a different version of the pink dress...and it worked!

Posted: 4/15/06 at 10:15pmI LOVE most of William Ivey Long's costume work, but this is really a bad design. The garment looks heavy and akward, and just kind of hangs on Marissa.

He most likely wanted to incorporate fringe as like a lil nod to the 60's fashion to come... like pennys.
I think the idea is nice... but it really isnt that nice looking.

He could have gone with a looser translation of the jail outfit.. Like a Pink and Purple striped dress.. but I wonder if people would get the connection.
I think a Pink Fringe dress could be cute. But very much NOT that pattern.
