Hi there, took me forever to find this thread; but my friend that works at Oklahoma City University called me and said there was a "promo" on CBS there tonight on the news that there was going to be a live interview on Friday with this "little girl" from Make A Wish and her experience living her dream to dance in a broadway show and her reaction to the cast and the Hollywood scene?? I know someone from Oklahoma was writing on another thread and might be interested in this, anyways, there it is, and thanks Marc and Company for one of the most uplifting stories of the summer!
That's so awesome! I have seen Jordan in many shows (Footloose, RENT,...). She is so great. I am so happy for the young girl. She must have felt so good inside.
And to let everyone know, you sound very rude when you ask to be in the show for one night. You have a long life to work for it on your own. This poor girl doesn't. I know you didn't mean it that way, but please...don't do that.
We are the proud parents of Katie, the 9 year old young girl from Oklahoma who was 'granted the wish' of dancing last Saturday, August 7th in the Broadway musical "Hairspray" in L.A. Katie was born with congenital heart disease (single atrium/single ventricle) and after numerous thoracic surgeries, catherizations and a pacemaker implant, is doing quite well.
Katie began dancing at the age of three and she has always dreamed of dancing in a Broadway show. Through the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the fantastic Hairspray family, Katie's dream was fulfilled. This was the happiest moment of Katie's young life and as parents, words can't express our extreme joy.
We would like to especially thank Jordan Ballard "Amber" for her guidance and huge heart. Without Jordan's assistance Katie's wish wouldn't have been fulfilled. To Kim Fisk, we truly appreciate your involvement in making this a magical day for our daughter. To Mark Shaiman, thank you for the beautiful message. To the entire Hairspray cast, we simply can't individually thank each of you enough for sharing the warmth and love that is present in this musical. Our home in OKC is always open to the Hairspray cast.
Bravo to everyone involved. I feel truly humbled. And to Katie, you and your family will be in my prayers. Keep up the dancing sweetie! I'm hoping to see you on Broadway someday!
God Bless all of those involved. If anyone ever wonders if the world doesn't have heart, the theatrical community is the only place you've got to look at. Such a group of warm incredible people.
In the words of two of my favorite shows
"Everybody's got the right to their dreams" -Assassins "You've gotta have heart." -Damn Yankees
It is such a gift to be able to see people pour out their hearts in order to see one little girl smile, dance and live. Life is meant to be lived and a standing ovation to all those who helped insure one life was lived.
BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"
Wow! What can one say to this? To Katies parents, Thank you for letting us on this board know how special it was to her and your family, and to Katie, keep on dancing & dreaming honey, dreams do come true.
