Oh, Phyllis, I see you're posting replies in bulk now. Smart.

Thanks! I tend to get less pithy when I'm followed to another thread.
seriously, if Adele was cast as Tracy I would start walking to the Hollywood Bowl now(in live in NJ)!!!
After witnessing his execution of “Put on a Happy Face” during the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade two years ago, I'm convinced John Stamos is one very brave and ballsy guy.
Can we start a poll : ADELE FOR TRACIE!!!!
Love that idea! I think they dropped the ball on some of the casting for sure. Marissa's great, but no way should she be playing a 16-year-old anymore. As far as Nick Jonas, I didn't hate him as Marius but I too really wish Darren Criss had worked out for Link instead.

Why all the hate is right! I looked at this cast list and immediately thought "Wow. All-Star Cast." Yes, Marissa is 38 and a mamma now but get over it. Do you really think she's aged dramatically since January 4, 2009 when she, along with Harvey, closed the show on Broadway? And again -- it's the BOWL.. a MUCH different venue than the Neil Simon! I look at this as a great opportunity to see two Tony winners bring back to life the roles they originated. I had the opportunity to be in the audience for closing night and see Marissa and Harvey together again. Their chemistry is out of this world.. and that night, in that theatre with that audience and closing cast was quite simply one of the greatest nights of my life.
I also saw Darlene Love's last show (April 20, 200 and her version of "I KNOW WHERE I'VE BEEN" was the greatest live musical experiences I have ever been a part of. Standing ovation before it was even over. I wish this cast nothing but the best. If I win the lottery between now and showtime, I'm there. Harvey and Darlene will be worth the price of admission alone.

1. Just because Marissa Winkour played the rule on Broadway 2.5 years ago doesn't mean thats he should play it now.. or then.. Not sayings he should or not, just stating fact. being hired for a show doesn't mean you SHOULD be in the show.
2. Same goes for Harvey. Let's just say I was sorely let down when he closed the show.
3. I detest Darlene's version of "I Know". yes, she hits money notes, buts he is always breathless otherwise, never gets the lyrics correct and tries to be the 'pop star', totally losing the message of the song. I could run down a roster of women who wipe the stage with her.
Why is no one excited for Harvey? I mean, he hasn't overdone it like Carol Chaninng as Dolly or Adam and Anthony as Mark and Roger. He's perfect as Edna.
Put there are points when you would rather see other actors do it. Especially when it comes to a celebrity 3 day production. In all honesty if he were taller, I would love to see Patton Oswalt do it.

Jesus Christ. Do you think Marissa had a sex change or something? You always were an opinionated little cuss and armchair analyst of Hairspray.

I've got my tickets. I'm excited to finally see Harvey and Marissa, and can't wait to see Diana and Darlene back in their roles. Diana's was fabulous as Penny in '06 but it was her first role and she's gotten stronger overall as an actress, so this should be a blast.

Namo,
1. You are an absolute JERK.
2. My being an "armchair analyst" of hairspray is no worse than other posters who analyze any other roster of shows / performers here.. I think the current Follies thread proves that.
3.) If you READ my previous post (with several admitted typos made at 1:30am while medicated), I never said a word for or against Marissa there. I simply stated that the "she did it on Broadway 2.5 years ago to close the show" argument to be hollow with no impact on whether or not she should be at the Hollywood Bowl in the role. It has no substance to her merit or lack therof to do the production.
Who uses "cuss" in a sentence in this day and age?
Blanche DuBois, you are not!
Personally i couldent be more excited! having seen almost every professional Production of the show it will be a treat seeing this one. I must say i too was puzzled by the casting of Tara as Amber- she was great both on Tour and on Broadway but i was expecting a bigger name. Diana DeGarmo is and always will be my favorite Penny- Penny is really two roles rolled into one and Diana captures both perfectly. Darlene will be as amazing as always- she never disapoints. Harvey and Marissa have a great mother daughter feel to them that works really well. i must admit it took me a few shows to get used to Harvey and Marissa's vocies but once i did i loved them. Drew Carey will be an intresting wilbur- Can he Sing? i am glad to see that they have Jerry Mitchell on board. hopefully they will keep that show at its normal pace. it seems that alot of procutions are slowing down YCSTB which makes the song totally lose its impact. Personally, I am seeing two out of the three perfomances and can't wait!!
That's genuinely some of the most interesting capitalisation I've ever seen.
Now the i have only one question: Who's Playing Velma? Any word?
Susan Anton has signed on to play Velma! i am excited because i saw her in Vegas but in that Version the show had been cut down and her numbers: Miss Baltimore Crabs and Velma's Revenge were cut. so it will be great to finally hear her sing them!
Can't wait. Have my ticket for the Saturday night, I have been waiting since seattle to see this show.

Just started a new thread "Hairspray at the Hollywood Bowl."
Mo Gaffney has started a blog for each day of rehearsals. Funny.
