oh f**k off.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

This is actually really good news, if it's true! Great choices.

I think that Billy Crystal as Wilbur is the most perfect choice for that role. I can't think of anyone better to do that, and he would have been my first choice. I have to admit, I am curious to see how Travolta will interpret Edna, It is an odd casting choice, but that doesnt mean it is a poor one. It may just be really amusing to see him in a large fat suit also. Tehehe.

I'm still looking for the official - It was a casting call entry looking for Tracey, Lil Inez, Seaweed & Penny, It said to star with Travolta as Edna, Crystal as Wilbur and Latifah as MM and Meryl Streep as Von Tussle. It had dates and such on it and that is what I read and am looking for. I was tired and didn't mark the page, but I'll find it asap. Maybe it wasn't "official" but it sure said it was. It was from the film company regarding the open casting. I believe it was in Canada too, of course as we all know, everyone films in Canada since the people are nicer and their country isn't out trying to kill off other people so most likely your film will get finished without someone coming in trying to blow you up for the sins of your fictitious evil leader you know?

Meryl appeared in the film "Stuck On You" (as did Cher). At the end of that film, there is a "Bonnie and Clyde" musical. I think she will be fine if she is in "Hairspray".

Just for the record, and since she was one of the original producers, I always hoped Bette Midler would do Velma if this were indeed filmed, You have to admit "Miss Baltimore Crabs" is a VERY Bette-ish number. I actually believe it was written with her in mind, She would sing "I F-d the Judges" which it started out as, LOL! Oh yes, Linda Hart was a Harlette for YEARS!

For any of you who didn't see John Travolta do his Streisand impersonation on SNL's "Coffee Talk," in full drag with all the mannerisms, and even singing a bit from Funny Girl... it was truly hilarious. He was brilliant.
I have no doubt he will "throw caution to the wind" and go for it with Edna. Get ready to have your socks knocked off.

I would loooove to see Bette in the role. I also see Mandy Moore as playing Amber or Penny.
Am I cut out to spend my time this way?

They are doing alot of the filming on location in Baltimore. It really sucks that at the audition you can only do eight bars acapella. It is hard to break Good Morning Baltimore in to eight bars. 16 bars is sooo easy but eight...agggh

Is the movie going to be more like the movie or the show?

^^ I think the main reason they are having these auditions is so that they can see everyone in person, rather than just the pictures that were sent in. They just don't want to have you come in, walk across the room, and base it all on that, even though I think that's what they're going to do. Then, if they call you back, you sing it with music.
I'm not sure, but that's just my guess. I'm probably wrong :)
And iheartcheyenne123, it's going to be an adaptation of the show, so it's more based on the show (Even though the show was based on the movie). If that makes any sense at all :)

I could understand not casting Harvey and going for a box office star, but Travolta has been box office dud for the last decade or more - plus he has never been able to act.
Bad choice. I wouldn't see the movie with him in it.

Streep also sang twice in the film "Postcards from the Edge" and was pretty dang good!

Mandy Moore sounds like a great choice for Penny or Amber.

I can definitely see Mandy as Amber. And she's worked with Adam Shankman before in "A Walk To Remember."
I think she'd be perfect.

If any of this is true, the real bad news, IMO, would be the casting of Queen Latifah. Too young and not the right singing voice for that role.

When everyone keeps talking about these big stars, all I'm thinking of is how could they ever pay the salary of Billy Crystal, Meryl Streep, Queen Latifa AND John Travolta. There would be no money left for film!

Love the cast. yea i figured it would be based more on the show, with the songs. (right?) This should be great.

respeck: Haha! It really does make you wonder where the salary will come from :) Maybe it's why they're trying to cast unknowns for everything else.

So they are casting unknowns as Tracy and Penny? I am confused. If they do I will be mad. Not saying that unknowns are bad, but I would rather someone with experience take on these. Even though Ricki Lake did the original movie but thats beside the point

Not casting Harvey in the role is CRIMINAL.
Not casting Kerry Butler as Penny is also psycho.
I think I will skip the movie and save my pennies to see Harvey in Vegas.
This SUCKS.
Harvey is Edna. Travolta should be cast as Corney Collins.
Life is not fair. Poor, Harvey.
He really deserves the role.
What about Jackie Hoffman as the Gym coach?
SUCKS!

No one has signed a contract yet. Period.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
