Hamilton Standing Room (whats going on?)

So whats going on with the standing room spots at Hamilton, some days there is 4 spots some days zero, aren't there at least 12 standing room spots in that theater, whats going on, are they being given to VIPs? Would love some insight if anyone has any info.

Can't say I know anything for sure, but I know from experience that members of the creative team often watch the show from the Standing Room spots.

Wasn't this happening at Mormon for a while after opening as well?

For whatever it's worth, Lizzie, when I saw Mormon in August during its first year, they sold all the standing room spots in the theatre.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

When I won standing room tickets from the lottery they gave out 6 tickets, with 3 tickets being behind orchestra right and 3 being being orchestra left. The people standing behind middle orchestra were definitely not from the lottery. I didn't get the feeling they were part of the creative team, but there for a night out (based on their dress, drinking beer out of a Hamilton cup, reactions to the show, etc. I could totally be wrong) so I just assumed that maybe the cast/creative/theatre gives out standing room tickets to people they know. That's purely speculative, though.

i didn't believe it but i heard they are being sold as part of the House Seats since the cast is so large and the show is so in demand, could also explain how there making 117% of potential profit

^ I would assume that too. It's what Hedwig did when Neil was still in it. Friends of the cast and creatives could get SRO in advance, making the number of SRO slots available to each performance vary each night.

That's correct! It's for friends if cast and creative. My friend was working on a different show with one of the creative team members and the cast of that show got standing room tickets.

I'm sure it's the same as the price to the general public. Why should the family members pay more???

"Not sure I would feel like a VIP if I had to stand in the back..."

At the rate the show is selling, I'm sure those who have been granted access to these tickets are just happy to be seeing it.

I'm not sure if being a swing's uncle qualifies as VIP.

Yeah, just questioning a previous assertion that this was being done for VIPs, heh.

Yes, Dramamama, "a swing's uncle" is exactly who should have access to the standing room spaces in the back along with the lawyer's secretary's children and the janitor's neighbors. They are all associated with someone who has made the show possible and deserve those spaces over the general public. It is an industry courtesy and when those people are present they are Very Important to someone with the production.

House seats/tickets aren't VIP.
