yes, it's entirely reasonable to suggest moving TO ANOTHER COUNTRY because you don't like the existence of a parasitic industry (ticket scalping).

i love the US and i love capitalism, but let's not pretend capitalism or any other form of government is perfect. capitalism creates opportunities for ****ty behavior too. i'm not calling for them to be executed or persecuted by the government. i'm saying they are ****ty rent-seeking parasites. just because it's legal doesn't mean it doesn't make you an asshole. sorry if that includes you. but not really.

you are making a moral argument, not a legal or factual argument. what you find morally acceptable, or reprehensible in this case, is a personal opinion based completely on your own moral compass and values. that doesn't change the statement I made: this is simple supply-and-demand economics at its finest. once consumers stop spending $800 to see a musical, scalpers will reduce the price or move on to something else. it is not a difficult concept to grasp. there is plenty of affordable theatre in New York and beyond. not my fault that you seem hellbent on demanding a "fair" priced ticket for THIS particular musical. that's not really how the free market works....

similarly, you are making a moral argument that if someone doesn't like ticket scalping, they should not live in the united states. i never claimed to be making a legal argument, and in fact, expressly disclaimed that i was making a legal argument. my point remains - scalpers add no value to consumers and are engaged in a business i find reprehensible. (yes, this is my opinion. that's why i said it.) it's not a particularly unique opinion, as you can see here or on twitter. i'm not sure which scalping business you own, but enjoy your profiteering.

I managed to buy two front mezz center tickets about an hour ago. They were $ 210 each, which isn't too terrible I suppose. But I'm glad I grabbed those tickets when I did because there doesn't seem to be anything left in that price range.

When I saw the show back in August I paid about 140 for a side rear mezz ticket. And I thought that was astronomical at the time.

I did the Amex pre-sale a couple weeks back. I was online right when the pre-sale started, at 10am, and it was very difficult to obtain tickets. I was searching for mezzanine seats. Every time I had tickets in my cart they were gone by the time I went to check-out. It took me nearly 30 minutes to finally secure my 4 mezzanine tickets for a November show. For a little while they had the "buy on map" feature available & tickets seemed to be going fast. Normally pre-sales have only an allotment of tickets but I think that's usually for concerts & stuff. For Hamilton it looks like they put all the tickets on sale. Or at least that's the way it seemed. Maybe that's the norm for Bway pre-sales? Either way, yes, I think a good chunk of the mezzanine sold during the pre-sale.

Rear mezzanine isn't $329. Rear mezzanine is $139/$179. I bought front mezzanine during the pre-sale & they were "only" $199.

While I get that the show is "the star", I still find it bizarre to keep raising the cost considering the likelihood of many OBC will be gone by then. I'm sure any replacements will be good but paying >$500 with no knowledge of the cast is bothersome.

The Saturday night tickets, Jan. 28, seem to be all sold out.

If you're in NYC or can get here, the box office at the Richard Rodgers sells box seats for the regular price. They are not (to my knowledge) sold on Ticketmaster. They are partial view, but you don't miss much. I would recommend only the LOWER boxes. If you go to http://aviewfrommyseat.com/venue/Richard+Rodgers+Theatre/ you can see photos showing the views from the upper and lower boxes.

I know it's partial view and you're paying full price, but at least you can get in to see the show and you're not paying a scalper.

Agreed. Really is getting to be insane to be paying these prices when it will probably have few lead of the OBC so far out in the future. Seeing it on tour is starting to make more sense. I have wasted way too much time clicking around the site only to find a few premium tickets available. Disappointed and disgusted by the whole process.

Thanks for the heads up, the1liamg! I just bought two orchestra seats for June! I have tickets for October, but was hoping to better my chances of seeing the original cast, so I'm super happy. Now I can sell my fall tickets and come out even!

I'm no fan of Ticketmaster, but I'm curious why some people blame TM regarding ticket releases? (This is not meant to be snarky in any way. I'm just wondering if things have changed.) I used to work at a theater that was a TM house, and I'd work with the show producers to set up ticketing with our TM rep. Yes, TM handled all the ticket blocks, holds, and releases, but it was the producers (or their sales, marketing folks, etc.) who actually decided prices, holds, when to release tickets, etc. TM of course got their cut based on the contract agreement and set up and processed all the sales, but they had no say on pricing or onsale and dates. We as the venue would have our house holds, and the shows would have theirs, but TM didn't get any, just their normal cut from sales and fees. And they couldn't release any tickets for sale unless directed by us or the producers.

What do we think the likelihood of the original cast being there on Sunday, June 12 matinee, given that the Tony Awards are that night?

Very high, barring injury or illness. Most performers do their standard Sunday afternoon show on Tony night.
