Of course everyone's free to like or not like it.
But: "I didn't see a BROADWAY show"?
That's, well, in the words of Ira Gershwin,"the same old cry." Many said the same thing when they were among the first to see Show Boat, Oklahoma, The Most Happy Fella, West Side Story, Hair, Company, and A Chorus Line.

"I really want to like it, but I'm not sure it's going to be in my wheelhouse either."
Why set yourself up in advance so that the surprising thing will be that you actually DO like it?

"No, it's not good for him,"
On the contrary, it is very good for him, extremely good for him. He said all that he wanted to say, exactly how he wanted to say it, without following anyone else's cast-iron diktats on the matter. So yes, that is very good for him.
"nor is it good for anyone else."
Well, Jimmy, I can't speak for anyone else, but I can assure you it is very good for me. I would much rather read a person's honest assessment of a show in one sentence, or even one word, than the pompous, self-important, doctoral-dissertation-length disquisitions of some pretentious know-it-all. So yes, please, let us have more posts like Stevie's and less of the insufferable windbags'.
"I don't care whether someone likes or dislikes something, but one should be able to tell others why they liked or disliked it."
And what if one is perfectly able to tell why but just doesn't feel like it? This board is a recreation, not an obligation. One should be able to say as little or as much as one pleases. Three cheers to those who say little!
The fact is all this whining, "you didn't give sufficient reasons," or "it's your tone I object to" is just so much hooey.
If Stevie had posted a one-sentence post exclaiming Hamilton to be the greatest show he had ever seen, do you think any of the show's cheerleaders would have sought to discredit him for his failure to provide reasons why?

Methinks that the thought that anyone could not basically love and adore and bow at the altar of "Isn't it the greatest show you have ever seen in the history of theater" upsets them to no end.
As I have said before, if I see it fine. If not, equally fine. If we see it 5 casts from now fine. If the only way to view it for us is a naughty version equally fine. I will text and make calls while watching it to simulate the theater going experience for much less.I refuse to pay an arm and a leg and internal organ to see it.
The frenzy will start all over again with Frozen . The movie to us was no great shakes but this will be Disney's next mega hit.To those who want to see it fine. We are tired of the hoopla surrounding some shows while other quality shows go begging. We do not see a show for bragging rights. If I hear Let It Go one more time, I will run screaming into the night.

^Very well said After8 and Mr Roxy. Nobody is entitled to someone else explanation in this thread. I figured that out especially when I was in the receiving end of same when I said I had no interest in seeing Fun Home lol (but also attempted to explain myself and still not good enuf whatever) We have our own tastes in theater/entertainment.
I for one am excited about Hamilton. I am reading Ron Chernow's book (which I find fascinating) and have tix to see the show in Sept and Jan 2016. I don't base any of my decisions in what to see/like from the people on this board but it does provide for entertaining reading.
Btw, good for OP for leaving the thread after making his pronouncement while people on here are still talking about and requiring explanations etc etc Although the board really didn't need a new thread just for this

It is absolutely true that no one is "required" to say more or less than they wish, but it is also true that simply giving a thumbs up or thumbs down without explanation does not constitute an intelligent discussion of theatre. I think people criticizing unadorned "votes" simply hope for more. Otherwise, we could just have an electronic polling system on here. The same thing can be said of the theatre itself: some people are content with shows that have pretty sets and costumes even if they don't contribute to an intelligent conversation about anything. There is no requirement that a show do more either, although some shows aspire to actually say something of significance.

Oh, I can explain why *I* at least want an explanation for a negative view
1). There is already a Hamilton thread....did someone really need to create a whole new thread say that he simply didn't like it? If you're going to create a thread offering an opinion, I feel it needs to be interesting and have reasoning, etc. The same thing could be said for a positive review too.
2). I have not seen Hamilton, so when a show is as popular as Hamilton, and someone has a negative response to it, I would like to know an explanation, because I have yet to see Hamilton, and if it gets a negative reaction, I would like to know...
3). Negative criticism, in my opinion should be somewhat constructive--making blanket statements about how bad it was isn't constructive, nor is it really criticism
4). Also, the reason why I wouldn't necessarily expect an explanation from a positive review for a show like Hamilton, is because most if the reviews are raves! I've already heard the majority opinion, I've read the consensus, there is for the most part, nothing new I can gain from the positive reviews, so the negative reviews should, IMO have more behind them

I think Showface is speaking to the general discussion of people arguing that one doesn't need to give an explanation. Showface made excellent points for the entire board not just the flake who posted they didn't like a show and fled

To Ebontoyan
For the record, we did not go ga ga over Fun Home either. Did not hate it but enjoyed other shows much more.
