Pinto, there are little things in the show that are clever but that would go over the heads of (especially) non-Americans who would not be expected to know a lot of details. Just to give one example, the clever significance of Daveed Diggs doubling Jefferson and Lafayette would escape someone who was unaware of their long-lasting friendship. It is not important to the show for someone to get that, but it is a "wink wink moment" for anyone who does.

I didn't know that! That is clever. Thanks for sharing. I really do need to brush up on my history. (book is great so far FYI.)
The one I thought was really funny some won't get it Groff's reaction to finding out John Adams was president. It wouldn't be funny if you don't know about john Adams.
Poor John Adams.

the book is indeed really good. It seemed daunting when i got it but i sailed through it, and it really fills in so much (not that's needed for the show but that you are interested in when your curiosity is piqued).

why are they even doubling in this show? Isn't that confusing to people? I think doubling is fantastic in comedies for humor purposes like a guy playing many different parts in Little Shop or in Xanadu lol

Pinto,
Have you seen anyone complain that it was confusing in a review or comment on the show? Don't you think if it was confusing you would've heard about that?

Unfounded negativity is the new elixir for unmerited hype (which would seemingly require seeing the show to ascertain)?

"Pinto's right (for once), you're not allowed to not like Hamilton.
No, but in all seriousness it's refreshing to hear a different side of the story, so kudos to you for presenting a fresh thought."
It might be refreshing, if he or she actually had a side to the story. Instead, the poster make some general statement that says nothing about why he/she finds it to be less than impressive.
Moving on....

Parts are doubled in many shows, most of the time you don't even realize it.

Poor Stevie the troll.
If you want to drop a nose cookie like this on the board, it's probably best that you have an actual thought behind it and maybe a bit of an opinion to back it up, not just a single contrary post and then walk away.
I hope you liked the attention.

He does: disappointment.
He made his point clearly and concisely.
Good for him.

BOM, Wicked & Once did not do it for us. No show will please every person. There is no reason why anyone should have to explain why they did not like a show if they do not want to. Everyone is entitled to their opinion & need not have to explain themselves to anyone.
If we see Hamilton we will decide . We did enjoy In The Heights by Miranda

I saw an early preview at the Public. Wasn't my cup of tea either. I don't get the hype.

Other than in jest, no one said he couldn't dislike the show. But what's the point of declaring that without the reasons why? The reasons are the only interesting part to an opinion.

And, furthermore, what's the point of starting a new thread? There's already one where many people have shared their opinions, including a few that aren't entirely positive. I think this, along with the lack of substance (as dramamama pointed out), makes this comment seem like a cheap drive-by pot-shot. I think PJ got this one right.

Trying to figure out if this post or the one not liking The Wiz based on 20 minutes of watching the movie gets this weeks most banal post.
Can we start a weekly thread for nominations?:)

But everyone has to love it. Just look above, Broadwayworld is celebrating it's second week of performances in photos! How exciting, I can't wait to see what they do for next weeks shows!

This is one of my favorite musicals--maybe my favorite ever, since I love the inspiration from a variety of musical styles. But the coverage is getting ridiculous and I laughed when I saw the BWW headline. Now if Hamilton DIDN'T continue its second week of performances--that would be a news story.
I take no issue with all the tweets from the casts and creatives and all the #ham4ham stuff--they love the show and are making the fans happy. I love watching the videos of the lottery performances. (By all means cover that--it's different every day.) But the news coverage over the mundane fact that they have a second week is really really stupid.
I certainly won't blame people for thinking this didn't live up to the insane hype, even though for me it exceeded it.

I really want to like it, but I'm not sure it's going to be in my wheelhouse either. I love LMM as a person. He's so charming and obviously he's super smart and talented. I love how he incorporated anachronistic music into a retelling of history. It's so clever. I love the idea of it, I just hope I like the execution. I guess I'll find out in a couple weeks.

Where in what's "above" does it suggest everyone must love it? The show is newsworthy because it is the hottest ticket in town. Whether you like it, hate it or fall somewhere in between, only a fool wouldn't suggest that something this big should be ignored by a news gatherer.

No, it's not good for him, nor is it good for anyone else. Dislike without causation does not make for a good crtique, nor does it offer much in terms of discussion.
I don't care whether someone likes or dislikes something, but one should be able to tell others why they liked or disliked it.
I have now heard from several people that Hamilton is fun, hip, is well designed, well directed, and has a great score. Those are great reasons to have liked something, and that demonstrates that people here are smart enough to think critically. I expect those who dislike the show to be just as intelligent, and offer real crticism.
Even you, who seems to dislike anything that doesn't resemble something from the 1950s, manage to express reasons for why you loathe everything. That is the reason that I have never blocked you, because despite the fact that you are the most negative person here, you almost always give a reasoned dissent to every rave.

"Sensational! In order to dislike it you'd pretty much have to dislike the American experiment. A beautiful and moving musical."
-New York Magazine.
Not to mention you didn't post your reason for disliking it.
