yeah a "problem" with the music in Hamilton is that the songs don't work outside of context of the musical like many of the most remembered songs from other musicals which I guess is true. But I think the mix tape he is making is to make versions of the songs that work outside of the context of the musical? At least that's what I think it is.
I really don't like the We the Kings cover because as a three and a half minute radio song, it's unbelievably repetitive. It's been getting decent play on some Sirius XM stations.
I think wait for it could work with a few cuts and rewrites. If you listen to the Hamilton cast performance from 2015 Gypsy of the Year presentation, the song is performed in an entirely different context and it still holds up quite well.
I don't think anything from "Hamilton" would work for mass market radio...but it wasn't meant for that. I just think it's great that it's at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart this week...
Agree that Helpless is the best candidate, even if many of the lyrics would have to be rewritten so they aren't so show-specific. None of the other songs could be lifted without being heavily rewritten.
