Hamilton understudies on ALL the time.

The Broadway cast STILL has no permanent Lafayette/Jefferson after the departure of Daveed Diggs. Ramos is out a lot, there always seems to be an understudy on for a Schuyler sister. A friend of mine saw the show on Sunday afternoon, and EVERY major character except Angelica was an understudy or alternate.

I'm all for Hamilton understudies, as they're all incredibly talented. I've just never, in the 25+ years I've been seeing Broadway shows, seen a single show with as many subs and swings and leads missing.

Anyone else noticing this? Any ideas what is up over there and why so many are out SO often?

I don't think the producers or any one paying money cares, the show is the star now, not any of the cast.

You mean "1 or 2," not "half," right?

I think the issue is two fold. I had a friend recently attend and they said the same thing. We had so many understudies. I looked at the list and they only had 2. I think some people still think the original cast expect Lin are still in the show. Also the white slip listing the cast makes a lot of people feel they are not seeing the current cast.

I agree the producers do not care because since Lin left they have attempted to make the Show the star.

Brandon was out last night for the first time.

You say that, but they really didn't try NOT to make it The Lin Show for months.

Lexi was out on the 11th, the day I saw it.



I believe that Michael Luwoye did all the shows this past weekend, or at least both Saturday shows, Sunday, and the charity performance last night.

Curious to know who was on for Brandon last night?

Austin Smith came back last night, according to Morgan Marcell's twitter. Like I've said elsewhere, I've given up trying to keep track of what's going on over there.

I saw it on a Saturday night two weeks ago. We had understudies for Eliza, Mulligan/Madison, and Laurens/Phillip.

This is false. She's missed at least four shows since then. She missed three shows last weekend alone. "



Brandon's absence last night was scheduled. He was part of the producing team behind RSO'a "Darling" (which was fabulous).

When Lin was there he was the star. They tried to say the show was the star but that was not true.

A show that is pulling in an incredible $2 million A WEEK without any names above the title (nor below!) is DEFINITELY the star!!!

Why is does it have to be either one or the other? Why can't it be both? I think Lin was the star, garnering a lot of free publicity for Hamilton and deservedly being lauded for his accomplishments. But he also wrote a great piece that is capable of selling tickets without him. It's different because they didn't write the show but I think you could say Idina and Kristin were the stars of Wicked... but clearly the show has become the attraction.
