June is Bustin' Out All Over...

theaterkid1015 said: "tellybox, there used to be a clip of HALLELUJAH, BABY! on bluegobo that was removed, and it's a shame. This video is hysterical, but Leslie Uggams has some serious talent. "

She still has it! Not too long ago she stunned us all with a powerful “I Am What I Am!” at the memorial for Jerry Herman…🤓. And she’s at 54Below repeatedly…

Any buzz on Romeo and Juliet?

I was deeply impressed and moved by the Broadway production of ROMEO AND JULIET last year with Rachel Ziegler and Kit O’Connor. I wonder if the success of that production has caused the somewhat lackluster reception and interest in this NYSF production?

Does anyone have any predictions as to what show may move into the Lunt after DBH closes on June 28?

Re: DAMN YANKEES - Of course they could temporarily reconfigure a theater to be thrust or in the round (such as the recent CABARET at the August Wilson, HERE LIES LOVE at the Broadway), but that obviously adds great expense…maybe they ARE aiming for Circle in the Square after JIT closes down the road?

City Centers 24-25: Ragtime, Urinetown, LaChiusa's Wild Party, Love Life

I'm seeing this tonight, and I'm really looking forward to it!  Seems much more in line with what the mission of Encores! has been, at least in the past. Plus, Kate Baldwin and Brian Stokes Mitchell?! I mean, come on!  Any chance to see and hear them is worthwhile!

Majestic Theatre Renovation!

This video posted today on BroadwayWorld is pretty damn exciting!  We get George C. Wolfe talking a bit about the show GYPSY, then Audra and how this is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, and then "curtain up" and we see the theater in all it's glory from the stage.  THEN, we get the whole GYPSY overture, which of course is one of the greatest show overtures ever created!  This finally put me over the edge and I went to the show site and bought my ticket (I've seen Gypsy with everyone since Tyne).

MOULIN ROUGE! Broadway Casting Thread

Well, this will get me back to see it again, one more time...Aaron's singing in this is thrilling...

What is the worst production you have ever seen on Broadway? What is the worst show?

After all these years, it is still "Moose Murders".  My friend and I were given free tickets by a connection at New Dramatists for a late preview.

My friend stood up and bellowed at intermission, "This is an outrage to the theater!" and stormed out.  I refused to leave until I saw Act 2, to see if it could get any worse.  Oh, it did!  Somehow Holland Taylor survived this epic pile of horse ****!

Bernadette @ Carnegie Hall - can anyone see how well sold?

She was magnificent last night in Morristown, NJ at the Mayo Performing Arts Center!  I've seen her in several shows (Song and Dance, Gypsy, Annie Get Your Gun, Follies, and Hello, Dolly! twice, plus the Jerry Herman memorial), but never in concert until last night.

It is mind-boggling to think she is 76 years old!  That body, that ease of movement on stage, and glorious communication of classic Broadway songs...hilarious take on Peggy Lee's "Fever", terrifi

HERE WE ARE heads to the recording studio

Had to come back just to add to my post above that listening to this now, I'm reminded how delightfully dark and hilarious this material is, how sublime every performer is here, just how freakin' great...what a glorious treat in the midst of such troubled days...

HERE WE ARE heads to the recording studio

What an incredible joy it is to be listening to this final show of Sondheim's career...I was lucky enough to have seen it at The Shed some months ago, and now to relive it and savor the brilliant melodies, the intricate delicious lyrics, the sublime orchestrations...what a treasure this is!

So thankful that it even exists.  Truly a great blessing for all of us Sondheim lovers.

Have there ever been so many new musicals in one season?

There are 15 new musicals that will be eligible for Tony nominations this season. Is that a record number? I've been in NYC since 1982 and I don't recall a season that has ever had this many!

This season of abundant openings, not to mention the plays, and the revivals of both plays and musicals, is heartening to me, but I worry that there is so much "product" on the boards right now, many will not survive...

Back to my original question, any one know if

NY City Center Encores 2024 season: ONCE UPON A MATTRESS with Sutton Foster (adapted by Amy Sherman-Palladino), JELLY'S LAST JAM, and TITANIC

Jordan Catalano said: "Just getting home. I...I...don't even know what to say.

Was it worse than "The Life"? No.Was it good? No. Is it worth $200 a ticket just to see Loretta Devine? Yes.

Just a confounding production. This isn't "Pal Joey", so why bother tricking people into thinking that's what they're getting. If this is the story you want to tell, get the rights from the Rodgers & Hart estate to do a jukebox show with

Cabaret Convention - serving food and drink?

Hello!

I am going to a performance tonight that's part of the Cabaret Convention in NYC.  This show is at Jazz at Lincoln Center, West 60th Street.

Does anyone know if they are serving food and drink at these shows?  Thanks for any info!

Sondheim/Ives HERE WE ARE @ The Shed

trentsketch said: "I've not seen the stageshow, but I have done extensive research on the films. I don't think watching either film will help you understand what's happening in the show (or the films for that matter). The films are absurdist fantasies with a dark sense of humor."

Not having seen the stage show, how could you possibly say that you don't think watching either film will help someone understand what's happening in the show?  Your

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/24/23

Jewish holidays took a toll, perhaps? Numbers are down for almost everything…seems less than typical this this time of year?

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/3/23

Funny Girl's final week:  $2,137,057

Imagine what that number would have been if Lea had not had to miss the first 3 shows of the final week?

SPAMALOT To Play The St James This Fall

bigbelterbaby said: "if Kritzer keeps the role of Lady of the Lake so hope she gets a Tony nomination finally. She’s one of those actresses always working but has never had the right role to be recognized."

AMEN TO THIS!!!

“Monty Python's Spamalot” is coming to Broadway?

One of the joys of a revival on Broadway is seeing a new cast take on roles previous played by others, such as the stellar cast of SPAMALOT's original production.

I don't mind if a revival is essentially staged the same as previous productions (such as Bette's HELLO, DOLLY!) if the new cast and production is worth seeing.

I personally love this show, and the score is hilarious and wonderful.  I'm looking forward to seeing it again, and especially hoping my f

Karen Akers Sings at Nine Concert Tonight.

JSquared2 said: "Ms Akers truly stole the show tonight —looking and sounding as great as she did nearly 40 years ago!! Other highlights were Julia Murney as Louisa for “Be on Your Own”, Elizabeth Stanley as Carla for “Simple” , Klea Blackhurst’s “The Germans at the Spa” and a wonderful turn by Christine Ebersole as Guido’s Mother. Special shout out to Benjamin Pajak as Young Guido in “Getting Tall”! That kid is going t

Santino Fontana to lead NINE: IN CONCERT

Anyone else going tonight? Sad to hear Jessica Vosk has announced she won’t make this because of conflict, but I’m sure whoever we get will be great!

What a dazzling all star Broadway cast! And the original 25 piece orchestrations! And Yeston himself and original cast member Karen Akers will do a Q&A with the audience after!

I can’t wait!
