if i recall wasn't Johnathon B. Wright an understudy for Melchoir in the beginning?.
i just checked my playbill from the end of december and he is not listed as a melchoir understudy..ONLY Jesse and Matt asre listed

There was actually a thread about this awhile back. IIRC, Wright was listed as a Melchior understudy, but the part sat well outside of his vocal range (which he apparently openly admitted), and I don't believe he ever went on. Presumably, he was an "emergency cover."
also jonthon b wright was out of the show the first 2 weeks of december and drew tyler bell covered hanschen. and drew didnt cover the role of melchoir.

It's too bad he'll never go on for Melchior, he'd be brilliant.
is it true that jonathan b. wright has been out for a long time? I have heard that matt doyle had been on as hanschen a lot lately (he was when i saw him early in january, but i heard it was kind of going on for a while)
I believe Jon is back this week (as in he came back last night).
He has been out for several weeks filming a movie with Michael Cera.
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
He filmed that back in Nov/early December.
He was out for 3 weeks for "other" reasons. But I will not post those reasons. He is back. Thank goodness.
Other reasons?
He was just taking some time off, doing a few readings of musicals. Nothing juicy like dramamama's post would lead you to believe.

Im not quite sure how well he'd be as Melchior. Hes such an amazing Hanchen, but as people have stated his vocal range is far from what Melchi's part requires. After all he can barley hit somenots in Word of your body Reprise!
Is the Hanschen role written for a baritone and Melchoir for a tenor? I'm confused...

Yes, hanchen is a Baritone and Melchior is a Tenor. And trust be, John is a hardcore baritone.

JBW is a full Baritone. There is a YouTube video of him singing the Lead role in "Lil Abner' in a school production. He has a beautiful, Big Baritone voice. I spoke to him about it and he says that is his natural singing voice, but he doesn't get to use it in SA.
Here is Jonathan B Wright singing in his natural voice.

I believe this is from his junior year in high school, 15 or 16 years old, his voice seems very strong.
