I went, begrudgingly, to "Hello, Dolly!" In 1995. In Pasadena. Carol Channing, at 74, was a revelation. I went with friends, not expecting to like the show. I'd seen it as a child with Pearl Bailey in 1967. Carol Channing, at 74, blew the roof off the place...she was amazing. I just love her...

I second WithoutATrace - Happy 96th to CC!
I saw CC in "Hello, Dolly" here in Los Angeles in Sept 1982. She was fantastic! Her entrance applause stopped the show - literally stopped the show.

Miss Channing was asked to attend and say a few words in honor of the Marilyn statue in Palm Springs a couple of years ago, which is rather strange since Marilyn "stole" her movie role in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Anyway, she turned out to be quite hilarious with a few naughty anecdotes for the occasion.
