Happy birthday to Stokes.
I was supposed to see 'Beauty and the Beast' with the school musical cast, but the group tickets were sold out. Desperately trying to get out of a Social Studies test, I bought tickets for MolM.
I never heard (and saw) anyone singing 'The Impossible Dream' like he did. His performance in Man of La Mancha was life-changing. I came out of the Al Hirshfield (back then known as Martin Beck) theater blown away. I bought my first cast recording because of him, and my addiction to theater grew since.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STOKES!!!
His "New Words" in the Lincoln Center concert last year had me in tears, sobbing like none other.
He is truly an extraordinary, extraordinary performer.
I remember being 12 years old and refusing to go to school the next day because Brian Stokes Mitchell had not won the Tony for Coalhouse and life was not worth living.

Brian Stokes Mitchell is my idol as far as singing goes. I can't tell you how many times my mother had to put up with me singing "Wheels of a Dream" in the shower every morning when I was a preteen. Listening to his voice inspires almost religious and spiritual experiences in me. And he is apparently a nice guy to boot.

We just saw him in concert, and it was tremendous. AND we got to interact with him afterwards, and from that I would say that most definitely yes, he is a VERY nice guy. Warm, generous, kind and truly engaged in the living of his life - as it should be.
