Her ANOTHER HUNDER PEOPLE is amazing!! check it out if you haven't already.
NITYA, love how you described Karen's Vanessa!
"she was more frustrated, more yearning, even childish on occasions"
That's exactly it. I think Vanessa's character is supposed to be the "it" girl of the barrio, but the character of Vanessa is supposed to be played as if she doesnt see herself as the "it" girl which Karen did really well (Nina plays a similar role with her intelligence, but with Nina it's more of an internal struggle) .. and Marcy doesnt play it like that, although she may just need to grow into the role..and she was completely off in the "Usnavi, SOS" line .. WAY OFF...but again, she's new to the role - I'll stop nitpicking now.

Yeah, I guess if we give her time to settle down into the role she'll become a better Vanessa character...
"and she was completely off in the "Usnavi, SOS" line .. WAY OFF..."
Oh no! =O how wrong can you go off on that one?
I love Vanessa's relationship with Sonny and Usnavi...it's one of the things I'm looking forward to the most. I hope Harriell clicks with them the way Karen did. The three made a good team. "It Won't Be Long Now" is a really fun song. :)

I was there saturday night. she did a fantastic job. i mean for her first night. it is true about her stage presence though. sometimes she just doesnt stick out in the big dance scenes or crowded scenes. her voice is amazing i thought. i think she will have to develop the character more throughout her time as Vanessa.
I thought she was amazing! Don't hate on someone you haven't even seen. . .

If you're talking to me, I've already said I won't judge her until I see her:
~ "Okay, well I haven't seen the show, and know very little about Marcy Harriell, so I won't judge yet. "
There's no 'hating' on my end xD!
I just love Olivo's Vanessa a lot though, so I was just commenting on a mixture of how sad I am that I've missed her and how excited/nervous I am about Harriell's portrayal of the character. :P
Quite honestly, I'm just overjoyed at the idea of even seeing the show, after all the waiting.
(oh, and hi :) I'm potchplotr from youtube, I had commented on your video...congratz again on winning the lotto!)
I won't be seeing her until this weekend, but I'm really looking forward to a new interpretation of Vanessa. I did enjoy Olivo, but I don't think that anyone will play the role exactly as she did (and I find that to be a good thing).

Sorry, my fault. It's just from reading your posts you do indeed sound really upset! Don't worry though. Vanessa is in good hands, plus Marcy Harriell definitely won't be the lst person to play the role. :)

i want to see her in this role really bad but i think im going to wait for her to grow into the role a little bit...i thought karen olivo was amazing but its always good to see new takes on certain roles...ill probably go sometime in mid december hopefully she'll be comfortable with it then im sure she will be

its funny because i thought marcy and karen were probably the weakest Mimis vocally. marcy was incredibly consistent and talented, and i think karen was a BRILLIANT perfect maureen.
but vocally speaking- you were better off when yassmin alers was playing the role than either of these two.
obviously that was just the role- both karen and marcy have proven since that theyre amazing singers.
