They were just on THE VIEW singing
THERE ONCE WAS A MAN.
I hope they don't sing it like that in the show!!!!
that was the pits.
No they don't, that was the "jazz" arrangement.

They did that on the Today show and it was kinda scary.
I prefer the way they do it in the actual show. That said, I love that Kelli does these appearances with Harry. Most Broadway actors don't get this kind of exposure. And they clearly adore each other. So sweet.
TT
Worst arrangement since the John McDaniel travesty for "Sun in the Morning" in the TV special-sounding ANNIE GET YOUR GUN.
Truly a performance worthy of The View.

I must be wierd. I really like that arrangement. Or, at least, I liked the one they did on the Today Show (I forgot they were on the View today). I'm assuming its the same.
yeah you are wierd.
Just kidding, it's just that I am a fan of Show Music and I think songs from shows can be arranged differently.
But that arrangement takes all the bite out of the song and Harry was kinda jazz riffing, which he does very well, but poor kelli was just sitting there, no connection none of that "chemistry: at all.

Well, they need to appeal to Harry's fan base.

I thought it was a great arrangement, perfect to appeal to the Connick fans across America, but Kelli just doesn't seem to have any jazz chops. Which she doesn't need to have, of course. That's not her thing, it's Harry's. So I guess what I'm saying is that although I really liked the arrangement itself, it certainly didn't show her in the best light.
I didn't see the performance on the View, but I saw the Today Show performance, which you can find somewhere that shall remain nameless, and I thought Kelli O'Hara was REALLY impressive. The fact that she can sound so brassy after doing the classical Light in the Piazza sound amazes me.
C'mon! That was a terrific arrangement and it was well suited for a television audience. They both sang great. Kelli didn't need to "riff or scat" to keep up with Harry. It wasn't intended to be theatre. If you want theatre, go to the theatre. It was a music segment on a television show that advertised Harry's new CD and the current production of Pajama Game. They both put their own spin on the new arrangement and it was very fun and hip. It was a great segment. The horn arrangements were especially great. They DID have chemistry simply sitting on stools and singing with each other. I really had no desire to see Pajama Game but after seeing Harry and Kelli today on THE VIEW, I'm gonna rush to get some house seats.

i gotta disagree.
They hardly even looked at each other.
And the Pajama Game arrangement was great (on stage). No need to change it.....

OH MY GOD THEY HARDLY LOOKED AT ONE ANOTHER?
AHHH
TRAVESTY OF A SHAM!
kelli even SAID she can't riff. Also, she can't "belt E's or do any Wicked, Idina Menzel notes" those were her words on the jeff blumankrantz songbook podcast.
They have the best stage chemistry out there... If only that were real...And yes. They do, clearly, adore each other! .
But can you at least tell me if I can find this clip online? I just wante dot know!
Also, What about Charlie Rose? Did they sing on there? Or have any cute moments, or anything?

And I want to be clear: I think Kelli O'Hara is amazing. Great versatility, great range, beautiful voice! I just didn't think she showed up that well in contrast with Harry Connick Jr. in this morning's performance in particular...because jazz is his thing. I'm pretty sure if they tried to do a duet from Piazza, the tables would be turned. =)
Sorry, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, she does NOTHING for me. Maybe it's the indelible "impression" she made on me in Dracula and SSOS. I just don't get all the hype and seeing how lackluster she was on T.V. did little to change my opinion.
All I know is, Star Jones' version of "Steam Heat" was amazing.

I saw the Today performance on You Tube. They seemed to enjoy each other and whatnot. Pretty good song. And Wow, Harry is built. That shirt just showed off everything.

As I, myself, am learning..not everyone has to be able to sound like Idina Menzel or BE ABLE to sing anything from Wicked.
I wonder WHY Kelli even brought that up or compared herself to Idina??????????????????? The two couldn't BE more different and there is room for ALL..obviously.

She said it because she was talking about her limitations in theatre, and her audition for "The Pajama Game." Trust me, if you listned to it contextually, you would get it. I just loved what she said. She is just so down-to-earth!

Was that a joke? Did she fart in the chair or something and this is the so called heat she made?

Oh.My.God. C is for company, I love that comment. It is practically my favorite quote ever.
Practically.
And I think it was a joke.
Duh.
But you still made my night!
