Have they? I think it would be amazing. I have a cast already thought up for the witches. Laura Benanti as Sarah, Mary Testa as Mary, & Christine Ebersole or Mary Testa as Winnie.

Meh...
"And he's a virgin!"
I'm quite proud of this.
Brilliant!
Despite the other threads, I'm glad you posted this because I had never even thought of that. But to tell you the truth I love Hocus Pocus and always have. [slight tangent] A few weeks ago I went to Love, Loss, and What I Wore when it was the night with Kathy Najimy as one of the women. Since it also had America Ferrera and some others (including the fantastic Kristen Schaal from The Daily Show, who always speaks about Women's Rights and who I just find so very funny) there were a bunch of people I would have liked to talk to, get a picture with, etc. But as a lot of them were just visiting the cast (Judith Light from Who's The Boss? and Ugly Betty, for instance), I tried not to be rude and only talked to the cast members, usually a little "you did well" or "thank you".
But with Ms. Najimy I kind of gushed. I told her how much I enjoyed the play/reading, but also that I basically grew up on Sister Act (one AND two) and Hocus Pocus and that she was someone I truly admired. She thanked me and I asked if she was going to possibly come to the stage anytime in the future. She said that while it's difficult to commit to something for that amount of time, she loves a live audience and relishes little opportunities like the reading (she was fantastic by the way).
Since no one else was taking pictures, I started to go before realizing I would probably never get this opportunity again. So I went back and very quietly asked if it would be too rude of me to get a picture with her. Ms. Kathy was so nice and said it was no problem at all. So now I have that. :) And while it was warming up I also reaffirmed my love for all things Hocus Pocus (I think I made some lame comment about it having some sort of gay-holy trinity with her, Bette, and SJP). [end tangent]
Woo. But yes, I think this would work quite well on the stage. I'm surprised Disney doesn't try adapting more of their live action pieces, as opposed to animation, since I'd assume the transfer to the stage would be easier. But then again their animated films are what are the most popular, so I do get that. And hey, it already has a song with "Come Little Children". Oooooh I just remembered that since that's how Sarah [that was Sarah's name in the movie oddly enough] lures the children back to the cabin, that's how they could work in a lot of musical numbers.
I doubt it will happen, but I would love this to come to the stage.
ETA: Edited to change a light error, thanks husk.

Mormonphobic - Light was on Who's the Boss?
Great story though!
That is awesome. I'm attempting to build a set on Wicked stage in a program that I have.
Brilliant casting!
A quickly thrown together set w/ lights for the Party scene. Yes it is Wicked's stage that it's on.
Possible bridge before the Sanderson house.
laura benanti would be atrocious as sarah, but i'm just not a fan of hers.
i think felicia finley is a far better choice for sarah.
I would love to see a "Candleshoe" musical.
-Jacob.
wow that edit is amazing
Seeing Laura Benanti sing "Come Little Children" would be amazing. Mary Testa as Mary is perfection. I can also see her as Winnie. I think she'd be great as either character. Disney should really consider bringing this to the stage, rather than another disaster like TLM. LOL.
TimesSquare3 - What other shows and casting do you have in mind? You better be making this happen right now, lol.
In my mind Halloweentown would come in as a holiday show.
The graveyard with Winnie bringing Billie back to life.
