This is the best new musical to open in NYC this year. (and, yes, I saw Once and Newsies and enjoyed those) I was blown away by the talent on that stage. The lead is incredible. Where did he come from? Can't wait to buy the score on itunes. There are 4 or 5 hit songs that will come out of this production. Carly Jibson is a riot. The house was full tonight and I am going to bring friends again in two weeks. It has so much heart. Skip the boredom at Leap of Faith and have a great night out at Fat Camp. A few tech elements still need to be sorted out (won't give away an ambitious animal sequence).
I saw it tonight and really loved it! Is it formulaic? Yes. Predictable? Sure. Do all of the jokes work? Nope. Is it infectiously tuneful, energetic, and fun? Hell yes. The cast is uniformly excellent (Carly Jibson steals the show but Molly Hager's voice made the biggest impression, for me) and hilarious. I liked this a hell of a lot more than NEWSIES and GHOST and most of the new musicals on Broadway this season. It's a blast! Go see it if you can, I really recommend it.
Has anyone tried the student rush yet? The Facebook page says just go to the box office "right before the show," but I'm not sure if that literally means like 7:00.
