I want to go see it when it comes to California, but I am not sure if it is worth the 2 hour drive. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't drive 2 hours to see it, but I thought it was pretty good.
I saw it. I gave it a 3/5. I think that the complete redesign and the cast wearing jeans and modern clothes and walking around with guns was totally pointless. That pretty much left me cold. However, the cast (with the exception of the man who plays Zoser) is incredibly talented. I don't know if it's worth driving two hours unless you're a huge AIDA fan. I drove two or so hours to see it, but that's because I've never seen a production of it before, and it's one of my favorites. However, if you've seen a production before, it's probably not worth it. It's up to you in the end.

Yes it is worth the drive. If you like the music, this production delivers. If you do a search you will find a thread that deals with this tour, it has a lot of reviews and opinions. Hope you get to see it, enjoy.
I saw it with DirtyRotten, was only an hour drive hun, but it was worth it.
I'd drive to see it again. The production is just meh, but since the show itself and the talent is excellent, it really makes up for it.
I thought it was amazing. I mean I wasn't a big fan of how they were in jeans and stuff, but it was increddible. Go see it if you can because the guy who plays Radames was better than Adam Pascal.

Being in a car with you made it feel like longer.
I kid, of course .

Agree completely.

It was AMAZING!!!!!!!! I would drive 4 days to see it, I was sobbing through the entire thing and the new take on sets & costumes was awesome. GO!
If you like Aida, then I'd go. The three leads are very good.
Though I personally liked Adam Pascal better, the Radames is quite good. Everyone is great except for Zoser. Though some of the production left me cold, mainly the modern aspect of it, it was quite good.
If you like the music, go. But if you're looking for the broadway production, stay home and listen to the CD.
I saw it a few months ago. Would not recomend it.
there's fantastic dancing because it's mostly Alvin Ailey dancers... but just go to an Alvin Ailey concert to see that... a lot of un needed dancing in the show... like... they completely made the another pyramid dance, which is a dance of male strength... and power into a Saigonlike Lapdance fest... and while dance of the robe is visually stunning... it just didn't seem to fit... one of the set changes with the ladies in yellow chiffon holding candles and dancing was visually gorgeous... but very out of place... it showed the lovelyness of the palace, and the grand scale of the palace, but was kind of out of place with the flow of the rest of the show... Strongest Suit was based on shoes... and just awkward completely... Mereb was either playing the role purposely feminine, or was an actor that couldn't completely put out his flame... AIDA and Radames struggled with some of the vocals, and Amneris totally stole Idina Menzel's version of "I know the Truth." She did it justice... but some originality is nice. The entire staging of Written in the stars was AWKWARD... just awkward... and it looks like they accidentally shipped the Anything Goes set but still decided to do the show on it...
some of the performances are shoty...
and the character of Radames is based upon his body... and how long they can possibly keep him shirtless.
I just got tickets to see this tour in Galveston, TX!

Dress was different, but all in all a solid production

I saw it at West Point, of all places, and thought it was very well done. My brother (who goes to school there) had seen it on Broadway and liked the show, so he got tickets for my family to see it since we were visiting him that weekend. I listened to the CD ahead of time, since I wasn't previously familiar with the show, and I have to say that seeing it live was much better - in my opinion, the music doesn't stand very well on its own. I thought the cast was very talented, and the production was quite impressive (though I agree that the modern costumes seemed pointless). I should point out, though, that my brother was a bit disappointed with the production because he had the memory of the Broadway version, which he said was much more spectacular.
So I guess I would say, bottom line, if you've never seen it on Broadway, and you like the music enough, this cast does justice to the score, and it's worth going.
Saw the show last night and loved it. I can understand the critique about the "lap dancing" in "Another Pyramid". But otherwise, a very strong show. I did not see the original production, but curious to see it now.
HouFlip where were you in Galveston? I saw the matinee show and thought it was not very good. I did love when Amneris' mic didn't work and a stage hand walked out and handed her a hand mic.
I thought the show was very ghetto. From the poorly painted sets, to the mics, to the lighting that didn't like up the actors, to the father who was only 5 years older than the Radames.
I thought the cast was incredibly talented but thought the production was not that great.
See it for the three leads. They were amazing!
I went to the evening show and must have been a better show. Yeah, it was an understudy for Zoser, Amneris and Mereb. All were great.
Zoser was younger, but then he was the understudy who was usually in the ensemble - and he had a great voice! the sets were a bit downsized, but it was a smaller venue anyway.
