In her book she says that her manager, when she got one, told her to do TV and the movies. I don't know why. She's just another face in the crowd when she plays roles that don't show off her talent. And when she takes on a role in something like "gcw" or whatever, it can set her back.
I do want to watch an episode or two of Pushing Daisies, the show that she won the featured actress Emmy for. It sounds really bizarre, but it might be just a fun show, and she says she got to sing in it.
It's in live theater that she shines. She's a very talented comedian with a world class voice (and by all accounts a very sweet person). Very few can play Lilly Garland and Cunegonde as well as she can. These roles are what she'll be remembered for. Remember that she got rave reviews from every critic, even the London critic who had to apologize in advance to his London following for all the nice things he was about to say.
BWW published an interview that Elaine Paige had with her at the final rehearsal for hosting the Tonys. The rumor was that 20th Century would be relocating to the West End and that KC might go there with it. She corroborated the rumor. Said she loved living in London only second to New York. She might get the respect in London that The King and I and Fun Home kind of deprived her of in New York.
And when she takes on a role in something like "gcw" or whatever, it can set her back.

GCB.
While I may be in the minority of people who loved "GCB", I hardly think it set her back. Kristin was fine in her role and there are alot of factors that go in in determing a TV show's becoming a hit. Whether it's TV, movies or stage, you can't anticipate success guaranteed in any venture.
I thought she was totally bland and "eh" in On the 20th Century. I totally thought she was going to win the Tony, then I saw it. And she just wasn't IT like I wanted her to be. Same in Promises, Promises. I think I like her better in smaller doses.
I *liked* her in OTTC, but I can't say that I LOVED her as much as others have.
OlBlueEyes, you should definitely check out Pushing Daisies! Kristin did wonderful work in it, but the entire show is very well-constructed and cute (and it's very short too).

I thought she was terrific when I first saw her in Steel Pier and I think she's terrific in OTTC. So no, my opinion hasn't changed.

Yes they have all the episodes on Amazon for streaming or whatever. A lot of love for the show from a lot of reviewers. There's been some talk about a film. Probably won't happen.
But, I saw her in Promises Promises a few times and loved her then, which is why I wanted to see OTTC. After reading all the hype about her leading up to the Tony's, I was sort of let down by her performance.
I saw two previews and the second one seemed flat. Only about half the audience stood as curtain calls started and the other half didn't get up until Kristin took her bow.
Then I saw it for a third time about a month ago well into its run. The audience was really up for it and the cast seemed to be having a lot of fun. Almost everyone jumped up at the start of curtain calls and applauded and cheered.
Maybe some performances just aren't as good as others. That third time I saw it the cast and audience seemed to feed off each other's energy.

Maybe she should have taken away their cell phones ala Hedwig.
"Has she had notable work done on? ........... I think she looks terrific."
If you want to discuss 'disasters'----2 words...Stockard Channing.
My exposure to Ms Chenoweth is through what I see here on BWW and my most favourite DVD Candide.
I am sure she is not the only person who could do OTTC but she is the one who got it.
I feel she is a stage personality and the camera is not particularly kind to her.
She has her niche, is funny[can be], still has a glorious voice and I am sure she has a career that will be as diverse as she wants it to be.
In small doses she is very entertaining--but a whole concert-- no way !
Pretty much most actors can't play "everything" on BW, and Kristin is no exception.
I think OTTC fits her well and highlights her strengths including her comedic gifts. Some roles are perfect casting for an actor but the show itself can have major weaknesses so it's hard to get the right balance.
OTTC was good because while a revival, it wasn't something rehashed a hundred times over and it wasn't all that similar to Kristin's other BW roles.

nope, she still sounds like she inhaled 3 tanks of helium.
