Hey,
I just got tickets for the 2009 Tony Awards! While I watch the ceremony every year on TV, I have never been. Can anyone who has been please fill me in on all important details....for example
Can you go on the red carpet before or after or both?
If you have tickets for the ceremony, are their cocktails??
Can you walk into the atrium of Radio City if you are on the 1st Mezz?
Is there anyone to take your photo
Can you buy posters?
What type of food is offered :)
Basically, can you tell me ANYTHING about YOUR Tony experience so I can know what to expect....
Thanks!!

There are a few threads on this. You may want to do a search. But... I have been. Get there early. If you take a camera, they may take it away from you at the door. We are glad we didn't because after the ceremony you had to go back to the door you came in (Which is seperate from the Red Carpet, completely on the other side of Radio City) and get your camera. We were able to walk the red carpet after, not before. That was the fun part, had we had to go get our camera, we would not have been able to walk out with all of the stars. No cocktails are served. No alcohol. Not sure but I think you have to stay on whatever level you are sitting on during the broadcast. We only had a few minutes to go to the bathroom and be back during commercials and we were told that we could not be seated if we weren't back in time for the next segment. I didn't see any posters. Actually I didn't see anything for sale. Hold onto your ticket when you walk in because that gets you the official program. You only get one, so don't lose it! There is nobody to take your photo and there is no food. So eat and drink before and after! Have a great time! I did!
That's really interesting seeing as how tickets don't go on sale until Tuesday.

Does anyone know how to apply to be a seat filler?
sgv123, you may want to do a search on here. I typed in "seat fillers" and came across a few threads on the subject.
I went last year, although I was third row from the top of the theater. For general ticket holders, there was no access to the red carpet (unless you want to be behind the barricades on the opposite side of the street), and you enter Radio City on the opposite side of the theater as the red carpet.
Pretty much the same thing uncageg said. Also, I have a camera phone, and they did not take that away, in case that was a question anyone wanted answered.
I, too, definitely recommend walking out the other door on your way out. I love to tell people I followed Glenn Close out of Radio City.
They didn't take phones while we were there either. I went in 2006. And the reason I am glad we didn't have a camera is because I walked out with Frank Langella to my left along with "Jersey Boys" cast members, Hal Holbrook to my right and Neil Patrick Harris, David Burkta, Brian F O'Byrne and Heather Goldenhersh in front of me. We left on the side where the red carpet is and walked it down to the Rink steps (They were having the after party down there that year)
Any other stories/advice??
I was there last year. The tickets are pricey and it's not like you're in the orchestra either, but there is a whole new energy seeing it live. Walking in you can mingle with the stars in the lobby and you can mingle while walking out, as previous people have posted. They do have huge screens that show the whole show as well, but I almost felt it was a waste to look at them. It was a lot of fun and I recommend it.
Don't forget to dress up to the nines!
I wore a designer tux, black bow tie (hand-tied, not clip-on. Since I learned to tie one I've got very snobby and sniffy about clip-ons!), patent leather shoes, etc. I also sprayed myself to within an inch of my life with very expensive Tom Ford cologne.
Believe me, for one night, you'll feel like a million dollars - heck, you'll feel like a Tony winning Broadway star! Oh go on - go mad - have some Champagne, already!
