"Salma Hayek, Jessica Biel, Matthew Morrison and Paulo Szot toplined a closed reading last weekend of Lincoln Center Theater's developing tuner version of "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown."
None of those thesps are definitively signed on for a full production, and a rep for LCT says no plans for the tuner have yet been nailed down. Still, such a starry preliminary cast bodes wells for the show, which is said to be a Broadway possibility for as early as next spring.
Hayek would be a buzzworthy Hollywood addition to the legit scene, while Biel, who appeared over the summer in "Guys and Dolls" at the Hollywood Bowl, has been eyeing theater projects in recent months. Both Morrison ("Glee") and Szot were in the original cast of the LCT revival of "South Pacific," still running at the org's Vivian Beaumont Theater.
Joanna Gleason and Argentinian actress Mia Maestro ("Alias") also were among the thesps to perform in the reading..."

That...seems to be an interesting assortment of talent.

Wow, what a cast! I think Hayek would be perfect for something like this, I think she has the right sensibility to give life to an Almodovar character (though I know he is not so involved with the writing). I don't particularly love the idea of Biel in this project, but I am excited about Mia Maestro, Joanna Gleason, and Paulo Szot. It'd be great if Hayek made her Broadway debut in this musical.

Can Salma sing?
So, no, she can't.
That was plain bad, and everyone was supporting it.
Bring in someone like Gina Gershon, the songbird of our generation.
HOLY CRAP! That is ONE helluva cast! Hayek, Biel, Szot, Matty Fresh AND Joanna Gleason?! I don't care if it's a bomb, I'll see it just for the cast and I'm far from a starf*cker.
That being said, I'm sure Matty Fresh is too busy Glee-ing it up with Gleedina and Gleea Michelphaba to actually commit to a year on Broadway at this point. Even without him this is a starry enough cast to rival MJL'S WILD PARTY.
P
P.S. I enjoyed Hayek's portion of "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" in ACROSS THE UNIVERSE.

I love this movie!!! I can see this being great!
I hope Biel's role is more in the alto register than a soprano one. She has a solid middle range, but the higher she sings, the more sketchy the notes get.

Crap... when I saw the name "Morrison" on the list for a Hispanic-themed show, I thought it was Shelley Morrison (Rosario on Will & Grace).

I saw Jessica Biel in "Guys and Dolls" this summer and IMHO, she was better cast than Brian Stokes Mitchell. There will be people on here (who have never heard her sing) who will crap all over her but the girl can sing. She's all over the soundtrack for "Easy Virtue" doing 20s jazz and she's quite good.
