re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray

I think she'd be great. Amber isn't that vocal demanding anyways, so I'm sure she'll be fine. And whether or not it is stunt casting, maybe she wants to break into theater? Give the chick a break. You're all such bitches sometimes. Look at the Simpson family - Jessica can sing (though I don't like her voice) and Ashlee cannot. Maybe its the same way here?

Amen RentBoy! Amen!

And agreed Matty, just because she has been in other things and has a famous sibling people automatically assume that it's stunt casting. She has done guest spots on TV shows and had small parts in a couple of movies, it's not like the whole Britney Spears in Sweet Charity kind of a deal!

Exactly. I wouldn't call it stunt casting. It isn't a main role and she's def. not a big enough star (or even a star) to bring in enough people. Maybe she was just interested in doing some theater.

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray

How long is her stint scheduled to be? I'm just imagining the throngs of teen girls that turned out this spring to see Diana DeGarmo and I figure when Diana and Haylie are in the show together the stage door is going to be packed with the teenies.

i actually think this may work out lol

i can see her in that part.
A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray

This has got to be the worst stunt casting ever. She's not a big enough star to make ANYONE want to see the show, but that's just my opinion.

Heh- that's too funny, because I was just about to say that she's a big enough name to make me NOT want to see the show. I have seen her "acting" on 7th Heaven, after all.

And plus, (completely bringing the shallow here)- I just don't think she's all that pretty.

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray

I've heard her sing. I've seen her act. I've met the girl, and she's very nice.

But I think it's unfair to a lot of people out there who try so hard to be on Broadway, and can probably sing her out of the water, and they go and cast Haylie Duff.

Maybe she'll prove me wrong - DeGarmo sure did.

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray

Ya know ... I don't like the idea of stunt casting. It doesn't give many newbies a chance to get seen on Broadway unless they are understudies. I don't think she was cast because of stunt casting. Not every actor is on Broadway as a result of stunt casting, big role or not.

Did I just contradict myself at all?

Wow. Never would have thought of this. Now I'll have to see the show a fifth time. THEY KEEP PULLING ME BACK IN!!!

I didn't like Becky Gulsvig at all, so maybe this will be a plus.

Can somebody post the details or a link to this story? The link in the first post takes you to a story about Phantom.

I second the sentiment that she's not a big enough star to be considered "stunt casting."

She definitely has a better voice than Hilary, and obviously she had to audition and prove herself to the creative team. I don't understand the kneejerk reactions from people on this board sometimes. Just because you know who she is doesn't mean she can't do the job.

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray

You all shouldn't be judging her on her sister alone. Give her a chance, and only attack her if she flubs up, but at least give her a fighting try at it.

Would you rather have her or Hilary?

I choose c) I'd rather drive a spork through my brain. :)

And I am not judging her by her sister, I am judging her by 7th Heaven, which is possibly worse, but it is one of her so-called acting credits.

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray

You can't judge anyone by 7th Heaven. No one on that show can act, and it's not as if the show is so amazingly written either. Geeze, it's an Aaron Spelling show for crying out loud. Like it was mentioned before, Diana DeGarmo was booed by the message boards, and she turned out to be amazing! So give Haylie a chance before you feed her to the lions!

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray

This isn't exactly stunt casting. She's just another actor playing the role. And how much does Amber sing that we're all in an uproar? Just give her a shot before you criticize her for her last name.
