Ew. That's all I have to say.
I'm not judging her before seeing her, but I just don't like Haylie Duff.

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray#2
Posted: 5/20/06 at 3:35pmActaully, she suprised me in Napoleon Dynamite. Her character was very similar to Amber in Hairspray, so I think she may be able to pull it off. I say give her a chance, she may actually be alright.

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray#4
Posted: 5/20/06 at 3:37pmI love the Ice Breakers commercial where Haylie says to Hilary, "No, you're right. You're always right." I like to think that line is indicative of their relationship.

Yay! More TV/Movie superstars to take over Broadway stage!
This sucks.
re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray#7
Posted: 5/20/06 at 3:44pmCan she sing? Her sister has never sung live in her career, so it seems Haylie is different.

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray#9
Posted: 5/20/06 at 3:45pmThis has got to be the worst stunt casting ever. She's not a big enough star to make ANYONE want to see the show, but that's just my opinion.

She's a better singer than her sister, but that isn't saying much.
At all.

She will probably do a good job. I dont have much against her.
I think its funny, people were speculating that she could be in the movie version as Amber.
- No way is this worse than donny osmond as Gaston.

Why is this bad? Because she's related to Hilary Duff? I don't understand why people always react the same way to this new. "I may puke" or "No...that's just...wrong."
Why is it wrong? I don't particularly care for either Duff sister, but Haylie as Amber seems like it may be a good fit. She couldn't be worse than some people I've seen in the role, and she'll probably do fine.
I recall a similar reaction to Diana DeGarmo's announcement. Well, look how that turned out - she was fantastic.

i'm more upset over Becky leaving... she's my favorite Amber
re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray#15
Posted: 5/20/06 at 4:22pmWell, it sounds pretty bad, but yeah, i guess we should see her before we judge, and the role of Amber as far as i remember has 1 song right? anyways, i am not going to go to see this show again. And i'd recommend all the fans of Hairspray to go see The Wedding Singer instead. It is "the new Hairspray"!
re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray#16
Posted: 5/20/06 at 4:25pmI agree with munk. What's the big deal? She was perfect in Napoleon Dynamite, and she's a good enough singer.

All I have to say is: ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME??!!
I know I shouldn't judge her before I even see her, but come on, her sister can't exactly sing really good songs and Haylie can't sing.
This stinks.

Posted: 5/20/06 at 4:27pmThe hairspray family has been pretty good about casting people who can deliver and do the job right. I have faith she will do a good job.

re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray#19
Posted: 5/20/06 at 4:28pmI'm with munk here. She's hardly a huge star thats going to bring in ticket sales by the millions, and Amber is a role that isn't exactly the essense of difficulty.

Agreed Mateo.
THE WEDDING SINGER is the new HAIRSPRAY? Um. Not even close.

Posted: 5/20/06 at 4:36pmi loved WS, but no... there's no new Hairspray
re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray#22
Posted: 5/20/06 at 4:39pmWho cares about Duff... Isabel Keating as Velma is FANTASTIC casting.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
re: Haylie Duff joining the cast of Hairspray#23
Posted: 5/20/06 at 4:39pmShe is a lot more talented than her sister is, so I really don't see the problem, she can sing, and she can act, critics say that she is more talented than her sister is, but isn't as famous because Hilary is a better celebrity. And I am pretty sure she had to audition to get the role, it's not like they called her and were like "Oh by the way we cast you in Hairspray, just a heads up!" give the girl a chance, you might be surprised!

is it possible she could just be doing this as an actor and not apart of any 'stunt' casting?
- i think so.
