I was looking at the Hedwig Facebook page and on one of the comments on the post that announced the final performance someone stated that the show was filmed when NPH was in it? Does anybody know if they just mean bootleg or was it actually professionally filmed? I would love to see this production be released on DVD!

I saw that comment as well (and got super excited), but realized it was just a poorly written sentence. Whoever wrote it was communicating separate thoughts: that NPH has been in the production, and that the show already has a film adaptation (the 2001 film with JCM).

NYPL probably does have a recording. It would be available once the show closes.

A pretty decent NPH Hedwig full show has been floating around the net for over a year now.

I've been able to find decent boots of everyone but Taye. They are there if you look hard enough.

Yes I was thinking for the Lincoln Center library as well. If they record it, it's supposed to be the opening night (of this production) cast - even if it's done later on.

I don't think anyone was questioning if a bootleg exists. The answer for every show is... yes.

I work at the library, and can tell you that, unfortunately, the current production of Hedwig was not taped for TOFT, w/ NPH or anyone else. However, TOFT does have a DVD of John Cameron Mitchell in the original 1998 production at the Jane Street.

No, that's never been the case. TOFT tapes as many productions as the budget allows. There are lots of reasons why a particular show might not get recorded -- it closes too soon, or the producers are negotiating with a commercial entity, or there isn't enough money to cover it, etc. But some shows just don't get taped for the archive, much as we might want it to happen.
