Hello all! I'm a huge theater lover and grew up on the east coast where I got to see tons of shows. I moved to L.A. 7 years ago and only recently rediscovered my love of theater.

I do have a question. I'm very interested in reading books about how Broadway works, i.e. how do shows get on Broadway? I know "The Season" is a must-read and am waiting for it from the library, but I thought you guys would have more ideas. Thanks so much!

I've been enjoying Ethan Mordden's decade by decade survey. Of course, Ken Mandelbaum's comprehensive catalog of flops, Not Since Carrie, is a must.

With Irma you gotta do something!

Thanks! I'm trying to get my hands on everything possible. I'm fascinated by the subject.

For individual shows it's always nice to check out the coffee table books that some have published. You'll get a lot of great photos and often a good (if somewhat biased towards the positive) look at the development process.

Some shows that I know published them (though some are out of print, you might be able to find them at a library)
Phantom of the Opera
Sunset Boulevard
Tommy
The Producers
Wicked
Beauty and the Beast
The Lion King
Tarzan
Mary Poppins
Rent
Aida
Avenue Q
The Color Purple
Hairspray
Spring Awakening

(Pssst...there is a search feature at the top of the mesaage board page!)

But you are new, so I found this for you...it's a relatively new thread.

Enjoy and welcome!
