'Hello, Dolly!' Hello Summer 2009

'Hello, Dolly!' Hello Summer 2009

As I mentioned in the earlier thread 'Hello, Connie!', regarding Andrew LLoyd Webber planning to bring 'Hello, Dolly! to the West End in 2010 and Regents Park Open Air Theatre beating him to it this year, well RPOAT have now confirmed their production.

'Hello, Dolly!'
30th July till 12th Sept
Directed by Tim Sheader.
Choreography by Stephen Mear.
This is one show that will look gorgeous sitting on that open air stage on a summers evening. Lets wish them a better summer than last year when many a performance of 'Gigi' was pulled due to bad weather.

...along with 'The Tempest', 'Much Ado About Nothing' and 'Oscar Wildes 'The Importance Of Being Earnest'.

I'm not the biggest fan of outdoor theatre, but it does look nice from that shot. The outdoor theatre in Tecklenburg, Germany is also beautiful.

This a magical place to see a production of anything, play or musical. The evening performances are great as the surrounding trees are full of small lights and if yore lucky to have good weather it can be a full evenig with a light meal there, drinks and the show.

This looks like a great place for Much Ado. I always imagined it being performed outside!

Its god to hear you enjoyed the Anita Dobson production but it is sadly seen in the theatre world as one of the worse productions of 'Dolly' that has been done in the UK in a very, very long time. I've yet to meet anyone who had anything good to say about it -esp Anita Dobson mugging her way thru the part. I couldn't return to the torture after the interval- it was that bad. Sadly these days 'Dolly is only seen in amateur productions and some of those are pretty impressive. I will certainly see the production at Regents Park if only to take away the nasty taste left by that production in Bromley.
At certain venuues last year the show was playing to as few as 100 per performance.

Thoroughly enjoyed Gigi in the summer was lucky to have a dry day, sat on the super cheap grass dayseats(so wouldnt have tried for tix had it been wet) and will happily do the same again.

Also love that they sell lots of nice booze and have good dining options.

You can tell a lot about that Anita Dobson production of DOLLY from the photo above. Look at the costuming of the chorus, particulary the pants on the guy on the right. Cheap.

...and what do you think of the all important, stage filling, Harmonia Gardens set!

Oh I'm whelmed. Not over not under, just whelmed. What I particularly like is the great attention to period in the costume design. Well, I guess it (the set) was designed with quick "get in" and "get out" in mind...but really.
