I was fortunate enough to have seen the original production of "Sunset Boulevard" during it's original run. The film is my all-time number one favorite film, but I felt that the musical didn't have the darkness or twistedness of the original film and just kind of felt let-down my the entire experdince. In the last revival, does Norma become a vampire and why does she come out for the curtain call covered in blood? It seems to be very unlike what the original story and deviated from what had actually happened!...
She basically stabbed him a few times and possibly decapitated him, and then made out with his face getting herself covered in blood - in keeping with Salome’s “the bring in his head on a silver tray/she kisses his mouth, it’s a great screenplay!”

I mean... basically yeah tbh... I dont know if that's their intention but it's what I got. Kookiness into a Vampire.
I think the Jamie Lloyd sunset was the kind of thrilling blood soaked horrifying ending that Carrie wanted to be but was never able to achieve.
It seemed like an answer to the criticism that the seeeney Todd revival had no blood
