I third Another Openin', Another Show. Especially if there is no real theme. it's perfect. As much as I love "Walk Him Up The Stairs", it takes place at a funeral and the lyrics tell us this. And It is not the only exciting thing in the show!! (I Got Love, First Thing Sunday Morning, He Can Make it, among others!) JMO

"Why We Tell the Story" from Once on This Island
Tenderloin has one of the best opening numbers ever: Little Ol' New York.
"It's Today" from "Mame" is one of the all time great opening numbers in musical theatre. It sets the style, tone and elegance of the piece from the very beginning.
"Invocations and Instructions to the Audience," which was cut from A FUNNY THING...FORUM and then put into THE FROGS would be perfect for this.
"In", from Carrie
