Posted: 11/29/06 at 4:46pmI saw it over the weekend. It wasn't all that bad. But it could have been a lot better. I am hoping that it will be fixed in time for opening night.

Posted: 11/30/06 at 9:15pmI just saw High Fidelity on Wednesday night 11/29 and It was GREAT. I felt that the entire cast was right on the mark. The songs, music and performances were creative, rockin' and very alive. The sets and blocking were extremely creative and impressive. I felt that Will Chase was great and connected well with the audiance, allowing us to "feel involved" in his story even though he played a character of many faults. I will mention Will, Jenn, Christan, Jay, Jeb, and Rachel as giving us excellent performances, but the entire supporting cast was equally impressive and added majorly to the "FUN" of the show.

I saw it in Boston too, and supposedly it has.
This really seems to be a you-love-it-or-you-hate-it kind of show

Bway singer:
"My all-time High Fidelity Top 5 Attributes are:
1. Amanda Green's lyrics. Witty, modern, often drop-dead hysterical, and the driving part of the show.
2. Jen Colella's voice. Not to dredge up the wrong discussion, but she should be belting out Elphaba's songs, among others.
3. The "fantasy" sequence. Hands down, the most well-executed sequence in the show and in many shows currently open. Had the audience eating it up.
4. The "guys" who frequent Championship Vinyl. Too much fun, especially when they would suddenly break out into backup dancing.
5. Will Chase. He doesn't quite have the "I could do anything and you'd still love me" charm of John Cusack, but he's easy on the eyes, nice voice, good acting style...
The problem is the book. It's slick, pushes right through every film point as if a committee said, "we need this and this and this and this in this musical" and Abaire had to go do it.
I'm also not a HUGE fan of the score, I think it's a bit generic. Green's lyrics elevate it, when it does indeed elevate. "
Nobody else recognized how brilliant your "top five" list was.
So I'm doing it now.
Excellent, and incredibly appropiate, critique.
Bravo.
(For those of you who have no knowledge of the piece, the crux of "High Fidelity" resides in "top five" lists.)

Saw it again tonight.
In short, the only changes I noticed were a removal of an expletive (f*ck, to be specific) that was really unnecessary (I think it shocked the audience last time because it really came out of nowhere) and the addition of a monologue. To those who have complained about the Rob/Laura relationship not being developed enough, they've tried to remedy this problem a bit by adding a monologue where Rob counts the top five (actually top ten) things he liked about Laura. Will Chase does a great job with it, giving a very heartfelt delivery, and I think it does remedy at least some of the problem.
I also thought that the audience was much more receptive to the show than the first time I saw it. A lot more laughter, applause, nearly everyone was standing at the end.
I believe a castmember said that the show has been "frozen" since yesterday or the day before, so it looks like HiFi is ready to go.

I'm glad they did something to develop their relationship, that did need some work. I, overall, really really enjoyed this show. I know some people may say something like "it's not quality musical theatre" but that's not the point. As others on this thread have said, the point is to have fun.
Will Chase is amazing. The way he talks to the audience, he has that down.
I ADORE the backup/ensemble guys. Andrew Call, Matt Caplan, and Justin Brill are all just AMAZING. I also love TMPMITW.

The f*ck wasn't taken out of the opening "unwrap your candy", etc. speech, was it? Because that got a huge laugh in Boston...and it was supposed to be shocking...

Scary- I think that entire pre-show announcement has been cut.
I can't wait to hear that monologue. Sounds like a good addition.

Nope, that entire speech has been gone since Boston. Marie (the woman who slept with Lyle Lovett) used to say "there's no sense in a broken heart getting in the way of a good f*ck" after she's about to desert Rob for Lyle. Now she says "good time" instead. Bad language rarely offends me, but I do remember it seeming a bit out of place.
Ashley - it definitely was. After the show, Will talked about how he only had a limited amount of time to memorize the monologue and was initially scared sh*tless, but he did a great job with it.

Posted: 12/2/06 at 1:40pmI actually really liked that line in that it seemed so appropriate to Marie's character. I'm sure it's fine if you never knew it was supposed to be there, though.

Posted: 12/2/06 at 9:36pmI loved the pre-show announcement. It got me settled and ready for the show. The regular one just doesn't work with the show itself.

Posted: 12/6/06 at 1:00amIt's not a great show and in a house that big, will close quick as they'll never be able to fill that place with something this unknown (and not so good). Christian Anderson is the best part of the show. It'd do better in a smaller house as I can't imagine the cost to run it is that expensive. The producers should be shot for having ego's to think they'd fill such a large house.

Posted: 12/6/06 at 2:02amThat's a bit harsh, isn't it? Jesus, if we shot producers for their egos....we wouldn't have any left!!!!
