The cast of High School Musical climb the charts AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
With the second biggest first-week sales tally of the year, the soundtrack to Disney's "High School Musical 2" bows at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. The set sold 615,000 copies in the United States according to Nielsen SoundScan, only a few thousand short of the 623,000 that Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight" moved in June.

Totally saw this coming.
It will keep selling and selling till it's the biggest album of the year [a la the first one last year.]
I enjoy the soundtrack.
It's cute.
Better than the first one.

It is a bit.
But, ya know. That's Disney for you.
I'm 19, so I agree, teens do sometimes enjoy the oversynthesized sound as compared to the authentic sounding music.

Where are these kids getting all this money??
HSM2, Hannah Bannah and Jonas Brothers ALL topping the charts?
I guess times have changed- 'cause when I was little I was lucky if my parents would buy me one CD a month. Plus, I was 11 when I had my first CD (Ace of Base.)
But times certainly have changed.

"Celebrating a birthday this week: Rene Descartes is 412! Do you know who he is? Then why are you watching this show? You could probably get into college and even get one of those job things. As for the rest of us; Amanda Bynes is 22! Yay!"

Tweens have taken over the world.
They are the mass-buying media.
Plus, they have the wide-spread appeal and exposure due to Disney Channel and Radio Disney.
The Jonas Brothers have 4 [4!] hits going on Radio Disney right now, they don't have anything on mainstream radio, they have so much success from just Radio Disney alone.
And Hannah Montana beat out Kelly Clarkson for number one the week their albums came out. It's crazy how much Miley Cyrus has gotten in the last few years.
And almost all [except for Zac and Monquie] have had hit albums and done well.
Disney is a good place to start: we all know that from the way it launched Britney, Justin etc.

The HSM is on sale at $9.99 at Virgin and the HSM2 is also on sale for just $14.99 together with the $10 sale CD's of Mary Poppins and Grease Movie.
I was gonna buy them all but held back.....maybe some other time :P

I'm not gonna lie- I've been listening to the HSM2 recording a LOT in the last few days. It may be HIGHLY oversynthesized, but the music is SO damn catchy!! And You Are The Music in Me and Everyday are legit gorgeous songs. Plus I'm kind of in love with Zac's voice. And he and Lucas (Ryan) actually could sing well enough that in most songs they didn't sound COMPLETELY altered like the rest of them!
for the record, the Jonas brothers remind me so much of Hanson in so many ways...except that the Jonas brothers have a COMPLETELY different style and imo Hanson is much better. But hey, they write their own music, play their own instruments, and don't sound like they need too many synthesizers to sound like they can sing, so more power too em!
and.. Hannah Montanah is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. So what? it's a cute show! (don't worry, I do not own any of the cds or anything like that
In fact, I don't even know much of the music. I just think the show is cute)
