Does anyone know the changed lyrics of "Bewitched (Bothered and Bewildered)" that was used in the History Boys?
I know that one line was changed to "and long for the trousers that cling to him" but I can't remember if there are others.
Thanks.
That was the original line, I believe.
VERSE
After one whole quart of brandy
Like a daisy I awake
With no Bromo Seltzer handy,
I don't even shake.
Men are not a new sensation;
I've done pretty well, I think.
But this half-pint imitation
Put me on the blink
REFRAIN
I'm wild again
Beguiled again
A simpering, whimpering child again
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I
Couldn't sleep
And wouldn't sleep
Until I could sleep where I shouldn't sleep
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I
Lost my heart but what of it?
My mistake I agree.
he's a laugh, but I like it
because the laugh's on me.
A pill he is
But still he is
All mine and I'll keep him until he is
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered
Like me.
Seen a lot
I mean I lot
But now I'm like sweet seventeen a lot
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I
I'll sing to him
Each spring to him
And worship the trousers that cling to him
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I
When he talks he is seeking
Words to get off his chest.
Horizontally speaking
He's at his very best.
Vexed again
Perplexed again
Thank God I can't be over-sexed again
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I

He's a fool and don't I know it
But a fool can have his charms
I'm in love and don't I show it
Like a babe in arms
Love's the same old sad sensation
Lately I've not slept a wink
Since this half-pint imitation's
Put me on the blink
I'm wild again
Beguiled again
A simpering, whimpering child again
Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I
Lost my heart, but what of it
He is cold, I agree
He can laugh but I love it
Although the laugh's on me
I'll sing to him
Each spring to him
And worship the trousers that cling to him
Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I
Any excuse to listen to the BBC radio recording of the play... :)
That is one of my favorite parts of this play. It was so cute how he sang it to him. And he has that sweet little voice!

So Brilliant! It's amazing what you can come up with when your collaborator has locked you naked in an empty room to force you to write!
I have always loved the line "He's a Laugh, but I love it, because the laugh's on me!"
i agree, i loved this part :)
