Hollywood Reporter Loves "Mamma Mia" movie

I don't know how to hyperlink and don't know if a thread has already started for reviews, but this one is an unqualified rave.

They mention the running time as 98 minutes...to those on here who've seen it, is it really that short?

Well, at the risk of going all broken record on you guys, I know I could stand to watch Dominic Cooper in swimwear for a lot longer than 98 minutes. ^_^

What's the running time of the show? Is the film *massively* shorter? Has much changed from stage to screen?

They also seem to like 'Hellboy 2', but it is a shame Rupert Evans isn't be back for that. He's another English actor I could watch for hours and hours and hours at a time.

Wow, that's a serious rave. I can't imagine anyone (even Streep) spinning Oscar gold out of this material, but I'm glad they liked it.

I think I'm just using "Hairspray" as a guide and that clocked in at close to two hours.

Maybe they just streamlined it enough that 98 minutes works.

The stage-version runs 2 hours, not including the 15-minute intermission and the 10-minute encore medley after the curtain call bows.

Keep in mind, the film-version does not include: "Thank You for the Music", "One of Us", "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "Under Attack". Also, though it was seen in the early test screenings of the film, "The Name of the Game" has since been cut from the thearical release of the film. The song does appear on the film soundtrack and the scene will be included as a deleted scene in the DVD release.

Wow, Im surprised they cut The Name of The Game. I thought it fit really well when i saw an advanced screening. Ohh well

The Name of the Game is my favorite song from the show so I was really disappointed that it was cut.

Wow, what a fantastic review. I think it's a bit of a stretch to compare Streep's role to the kind of roller-coaster performances/roles that Barbra Streisand and Liza Minnelli won their Oscars for. However, I do believe that it isn't too much of a stretch for Streep to get an Oscar nomination for this. If she really is giving the most entertaining performance of her career (as I believe the reviewer called it), the Academy might want to reward her for yet another great comedic turn (did anyone expect her to get a nod for PRADA this early in the summer? ).
How awesome would it be if she won Golden Globes in both Leading Actress in a Movie category? One for MAMMA MIA, one for DOUBT.

David Hyde Pierce was the voice of Abe Sapien in the first Hellboy and he's not back for this one either.

I was watching Entertainment Tonight today and there having a Mamma Mia special or something like that and they showed a couple of clips(being Entertainment Tonight they still talk over there clips) featuring a snippet of Dominic and Pierce singing, wasn't too impressed with the snippet of Pierce I heard.
