yea oklahoma is kinda boring my school did it last year. I was almost Ali Hakim. But, that first scene is like an hour and its so poorly written.
All the shows I have seen, I have liked (I have not seen that many), but I CAN NOT listen to the WONDERFUL TOWN cast recording all the way through. It bugs me to no end

i understand people's opinions and i respect them. i just want some support to back it up.
ehh i liked it even though i believe the show should've closed already like late july. (yes i've seen the show too)
ANNIE can be very boring, if not done properly.
Spider: The Wonderful Town tour is coming to my area next year, and I might see it out of curiosity. But I have the same problem as you - I can't listen to the whole thing! I mean, I love the overture! I also don't mind Christopher Street and A Little Bit in Love. But the rest of the CD...snooze. I actually thought this was a CD I would like because I like the old-fashioned type of musical.
ponine: I wasn't targeting you, nor anyone else.
I didn't mention Wicked because I didn't think it was completely boring but I think the first act drags like no ones business. I'm not sure why I felt that way, but maybe it had to do with songs like "Something Bad" and other ones that I don't like and felt just were...boring.
As for Rent, I didn't like the music so that turned me off to it right away and I found myself praying for the intermission. Also with Rent, I just didn't care about the characters so there was nothing in it to keep me interested.
me too. And I love the movie version of it called "My Sister Eileen" staring Janet Leigh and Bob Fosse. But, Donna Murphy annoys me on the recording and the music just kinda blows (except for a couple of songs)
Oh and for Wonderful Town- the show itself I think is excellent and I love it every time I see it. I don't think its boring on stage at all but Spider, I don't listen to the CD ever really. It just isn't as interesting to me as the show itself was.
it's hard to think of too many shows that are boring in and of themselves. the only times I've been genuinely bored at the theatre, it was more a result of the performers or the direction. not to say that every show is good. there's plenty of bad theatre created everyday. I just think every show has the potential to at least be interesting if worked on by the right people. Rent is a good example. Back when there were still good casts in the U.S. it was a truly exciting, inspiring night at the theatre. Now that the show has lost its freshness and the casts are uniformly sub-par, it can be a really boring show to sit through.
"Secret Garden" comes to mind too. It's one of my favorite musicals, but it can be very boring if it's not done extremely well. An excellent production of TSG is hard to beat. Anything less than amazing, even a "pretty good" TSG, is booooorring. The same is true of Fiddler, at least IMHO.

you don't like RENT.....I'm mad at you. (Not really. I am joking). Ruv you.
Every second after the first 15 minutes and before the last 5 minutes of THE LION KING.
so basically you like the birth of simba and simba's kids birth. Someone likes birth!
Matt_G, I couldn't agree with you more.
basically same here. I thought the ghost of mufasa was pretty cool.
RENT and Wicked both seem to be shows that you either love or hate. Not that they have *anything* in common. But I've never really met anyone who says either one of them is just okay. Either they're hardcore fans or they can't stand it.
I will most likely get majorly flamed for this, but the one and only time I considered leaving at intermission was during Chicago. I have never been so bored at a show in my life. I forced myself to go back inside for the 2nd act, hoping it would get better. I was wrong. Sorry all you Chicago lovers.

I would have to be the Wicked person who says its just okay. I don't LOVE it but I don't HATE it either. I think its an excellent production of an "okay" show.
I want to make one amendment to my last post. i believe MOST shows can be made entertaining if done well. i will say that out of the hundreds of performances I've attended in my life, the only time I've left at intermission was because of the show itself. it was apparent that the talent was doing the best job possible, but the material just made me yearn for my freedom. that show--

Chicago wasn't something overly special for me either. Besides Seussical, that was probably one of my least favorite tours that I have seen. But I don't regret seeing it. Some of the songs were great, and Bianca Marroquin was amazing as Roxie!
Dirty Blonde was VERY boring for me. The seat that i was sitting on didnt make it better either.

Wow. I don't remember ever being bored. Irritated- yes. Bored, never! I'm just so damn happy to be in a theater!
Usually I'm also just happy to be in a theater which is why it bothers me even more when that buzz is killed by a boring show.
