Hot Topic Stores To Offer RENT Merchandise?

I spoke with a manager at HOT TOPIC today who said he was expecting a RENT shirt a week before the film comes out.

Hm...I haven't shopped at Hot Topic in like 3 years, but if they have new Rent stuff, I may have to start again.

The store in the mall near me has these large, satinic-looking gates in the front. To be honest, it creeps me out. However, I will have to shop in there if this is true... or, at least, send my brother.

I love RENT, but I certainly hope Hot Topic won't start offering merchandise from it, because anyone who shops there might buy shirts and stuff without knowing anything about the story. Why should skaters and goths be pissed at people for being "posers" if they wear heavy eyeliner or Vans if us theatre geeks can't be irritated with other people for pretending they...
Ugh, sorry. Not in a good mood today. That's pretty cool if they sell that stuff, or at least if it's available online.

Though if people want to buy a Rent shirt, maybe they should buy it from the show, not the movie.

Wouldn't RENT stuff seem out of place there? I mean, granted, I haven't been in there in a couple of years .. it just doesn't fit.

The only Hot Topic I've been in was in a Jersey mall. But I didn't feel out of place or awkward because there wasn't much anyone shopping there could say to me. It was a Jersey mall. Exactly.

I bought a few fun shirts from there - Nightmare Before Christmas, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Breakfast Club, I think a Pirates of the Caribbean shirt for my friend's b-day.

I'm not surprised they'd sell Rent products. It's fitting.

But yeah, they sell movie stuff, but no musical stuff at all. And the ones I've been to don't have a lot movie stuff, it's mostly the other hot topic stuff.

the Hot Topic store in my area sells things for Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Grease, and a lot of other movies... so I can definitely see this happening.

It would be great if this were true.

And I think it fits. Hot Topic isn't really that gothic of a place anymore. They have that stuff too, but they had some Phantom stuff when the movie came out, in my area at least. I bought I really awesome Rocky Horror shirt there as well. Hope this happens.

I don't see why people are so wierded out by this store. It is one of my personal favorites. I think it would be akward to have RENT merchandise though...but if they do start selling it then I will be one happy camper!

It would definatly fit. I mean everytime I need a new I make out with my boyfriend sticker or rainbow patch I know Hot topic would have it! Might as well start throwing in musical merchandise!

depends what kinda shirt it is. I'm sure all the teeny boppers will get them now, now that they're "Hot" items - no pun intended. But I wonder what the shirts will look like? Hopefully better than just the plain black tshirts w/ the gray Logo on it. I saw some chick walking around campus w/ one on the other day, wanted to stop and talk about it, but yeah, didnt wanna come off like TOO much of a geek.

Hot Topic is also one of my fav stores. I buy all my 80's tees there as well as my piercing supplies. It isn't the goth hangout it used to be or is thought of to be. Do the Hot Topic stores you all visit also try to blow out your hearing by playing the music full blast?

Heh, yes they do. You can hear it everywhere.

I lie, I bought some really cute Care Bears slippers there like a month ago.

I think it would be cool of they got Rent stuff. Hopefully the shirts wouldn't be just like the ones you can buy now. Maybe shirts with pictures of the cast?

Why shouldn't they? I hope for great success for the movie. As much as everyone LOVES RENT, the truth is it has been struggling. I know I would much prefer the show to be there and me not to be able to see it because it is crowded from the movie, than it not be there at all. Cause if it closes I am not gonna be seeing it either. And RENT realy opened me up to the whole new theatre world. It was the second show I had ever seen and my friend all but dragged me to see it with her. If she hadn't I NEVER would have gotten involved and invested in theatre. If the movie could do that for more people, I'd welcome it. And RENT is already pretty damn mainstream with or without the movie.

A lot of the kids at my school like Hot Topic. It would be really cool seeing people in class wearing RENT mechandise from there.

I miss the old dark and "scary" Hot Topic. There's something wrong with being able to buy Care Bear slippers there. Then again, I suppose the store is appropriately named now. It's already so trendy and movie focused, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a Rent shirt there.

Not sure what to think about this ---

on the one hand I'm loving that I would be able to have easier access to RENT related merchandise... but on the other hand there is more than likely to be "posers" and silly little teeny-boppers buying these things without knowing a damn thing about the show.

But here I suppose that is somewhat critical because we were all new once and had to learn the ins & outs of the show.

So I guess, for me, it depends on what they're going to sell. I'm sure in the end I won't really give a damn lol
