#1How Long Is Too Long To Be Without Acting?
Posted: 8/7/07 at 1:36amI'm thinking of taking the next five-ten years off in terms of acting. No auditions, no classes, no nothing. I'd study acting in my own private way and then maybe get out there and audition. I've always felt extremely uncomfortable onstage (Although I love being in a character) and must find a way to fix that.

Posted: 8/7/07 at 11:48pmIf you're willing to take five to ten years off from acting, you probably don't have a strong enough need to do it that would justify pursuing such an uncertain career anyway.

The only way you'll fix the way you feel on stage is if you continue to be a part of the theatre, and learn from consecutive experiences. Observation in the rehearsal room, et cetera, is a big thing.
If you really wished to improve, you wouldn't stop, you'd continue.

If you're not comfortable on stage then you probably shouldn't be there.
And taking five years off isn't going to solve the issue.
P.S. I'm surprised you don't do well on stage, you have the disposition of an actor (aka: an obvious need for constant attention).

Posted: 8/7/07 at 11:58pmI know I haven't said this yet, but I 100 percent agree with BroadwayGirl. 5-10 YEARS? Maybe 5-10 minutes. Maybe weeks. Maybe months. That is a long time to deprive yourself of something you should be passionate about (if you want to pursue it..which I'm assuming you're not..)

Cruel- You are really odd.
Especially cause you are going to make a horror movie when you are supposed to play a husband and wife but now you announce that you are done acting? What's up with that?

Hmm, I think that a problem with being on stage would be best solved . . . on stage.
But whatever dude.
With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-

To pursue this career you have to have a HUGE passion for it, IMHO. And if you're willing to give it up for 10 years, you obviously don't have that passion.
I get restless if I'm not in a show for a month.
