I'm 15 years old and I want to know how to get started. I've been in a few shows, but I mostly sing classical music with my voice coach. She also coaches me with broadway music, but I can't sing a lot of the songs that I want to sing because they are too "shouty" for my voice. I love to sing broadway music and I've played roles such as Nacy in OLIVER! and the Evil Stepmother in Cinderella. I also perform with my voice coach and her husband around Florida doing solos in their concerts. I'm a "bigger" person and its hard to get parts. What should I do?
Start auditioning for everything you get a chance to audition for.
Since youre 15 audition for all the community theatre stuff. It will pay off.

Read every single book you can find about show business. You might want to start with Moss Hart's ACT ONE.
Just audition for everything you can, and remember you are still young so have fun. !
Well, you are only fifteen, so be patient! The best advice I can give you is to continue studying with your voice teacher (your classical training is an excellent basis--later you can start learning more modern musical theater techniques), and to learn EVERYTHING you can about the theater. Educate yourself on basic theater history, as well as the major shows. Go to the theater as much as possible and study the performers. And, of course, do as many plays/musicals as possible. You learn by doing! You should also take dance/movement classes--even if by your body type you aren't going to be a "dancer", it's important to be able to be graceful onstage, and to learn to use your body well for physical expression and for any choreography you may have to do.
opps!
I agree with doing community theater. if you are right for the part it should not matter what size you are. Many directors should be able to look past size and at talent.
