I just have mine on a couple of stacks on my desk. I'm one of those people who sort of mangles them during the show, I like rolling them up and bending them...I feel like it wears them in and makes them mine. But I do keep every single one.

MrBundles, out of curiosity, how many extra sleeves can fit into the binder?

defying gravity-

Well, I have 24 in total. The original 18 plus the 6 you can purchase on their own. They fit perfect for me, and I really wouldn't put any more in or the binder would start to open up a bit.

I have a very large pile that I should have put in a binder 10 years ago in the cabinet about my desk. That's gotta change.

Almost all of mine are autographed, so I'd like to display them somehow... but right now, I have some framed & hanging decorativly on the walls with windowcards & autographed pictures... but then all of the rest are neatly placed into a large envelope (that I kind of guard with my life) with all of the fanmail responses that I've recieved. I plan on hanging everything up someday.
...but I'm kind of running out of wall space, so I guess it's time for a bigger house re: How do *you* store your PLAYBILLs?

I keep mine in shoeboxes, but I have a friend who always gets a duplicate of his, and he cuts the cover off and tosses the rest away. He's got two of each, so why not? He has papered (intense, wallpaper paste and everything) two walls with them, and it's stunning. The walls, from floor to ceiling, are beautiful memorials to nights at the theatre. I'll ask him for a photo of it to post sometime.

my friend ran out of space for his playbills (even though i thought he had enough room), so he just threw them out! AAAAHH! I would die!

This isn't a great preservation method, but for storage purposes:

The KASSETT series CD boxes that Ikea sells (cardbard with metal rivets, you put them together yourself) are the PERFECT size for Playbills. A little long but just the right width, they come in differenct colors, and they look nice lined up on the shelf. :)

Here's a link if you're interested...

I use the binder as well. I don't really have an immense playbill collection, so I use the extra space to make little collages of ticket stubs, flyers, understudy announcements etc. for each show. I also have a plastic bag in there for more bulky memorabelia (pins, candy (MUE fruity stuff), etc.)

I have a few different things that I do with my Playbills.

For the playbills that I've collected, and are not actually from shows I've seen, I put in the Playbill binder with the plastic sleeves. It actually works perfectly, and since I'm in a dorm room and can't do a huge wall display, saves me lots of space.

For the playbills I've saved from shows I've seen, however, I have a scrapbook that I started last year for my theatre experiences.

For each time I went to see a show, I have a layout that includes the playbill, the ticket stub, any flyers I got, and if I got them, pictures from the stagedoor.

To put the playbills in the scrapbook, since it's not one that you just slip the materials in, I bought a pack of the extra plastic sleeves from the Playbill binder and cut off the three-ring part, and then I attached that to the page with double sided scrapbook tape. It actually works perfectly.

I write the date, location, and any other info I want to remember (understudies for the night, etc) on the page, and it's a wonderful way to remember my experience, all in one place.

I'll take a picture and post it if any of you guys are interested.

I have them framed. I have a frame that's strictly from "The Dancer's Life", and has my tickets, the signed playbill and the program inserts all arranged to look pretty. And it's backed by acid-free construction paper (it's magenta, just so you know =]). In the very back, there is an index card saying what is in the frame, so it doesn't need to be taken apart. I have other frames for other Playbills, and two dedicated to tickets. I haven't hung them yet, but I plan to put them on the wall surrounding the piano.

The idea of papering a wall with Playbill covers sounds pretty cool. I might do that...

They are on my bookshelf, the shelf that nobody usually touches unless I add another playbill to it. Ticket stubs in the center fold of the playbill. I should really get some of them framed, never did get around to do that. One time I spazzed about the ink perhaps transfering, but to that that has not happened. They do live in a smoke free environment...so they'll be okay for now.

I have my Playbills commercially bound, by season..sometimes more than one season in a volume. The first volume is 1949-1954. I also have a separate volume for shows seen in Boston during my college years...tryouts and tours.

Mine are framed, hanging on my wall. I headed to Hobby Lobby and picked up some frames (8 1/2" by 11"), put in a piece of black acid free paper, and set them in. Since Playbills are so thick, they don't need a matting. I put each one in a seperate frame which makes it easier for me to reorganize them and I can change the pattern I have them hanging. I'm currently in college, and I've found that it's a great conversation starter when someone walks into my dorm :)

For the playbills, I keep them in a binder.

For the autographed ones, I put them on clip frames (inexpensive ones from Ikea) with the cover page on the left and the credits page on the right. They're the perfect size.

I use the playbill binder as well. I only have two of them though.

Quick question for those of you that say you need 17 binders? Are you either -

a) Old so have been around a while
b) see every show under the sun
c) Keeping playbills from the same show seen multiple times?

Cause i cant imagine having that many unless its repeats.

Hey, I have so many playbills so I don't even have those binders, because I would need like 100. I can't ever bring myself to throw them out. So, I store them in those big plaastic boxs from IKEA.

re: How do *you* store your PLAYBILLs?

I had to search a bit to find a box that was the right size. I have filled three so far. I've just started the fourth box. The box seems to keep them safe. It would be cool to display some of them though. (I keep playbills from repeat viewings of the same show, but I don't actually collect any from shows I haven't seen...and I don't have any autoraphed.)

If I'm in it, it gets thrown into a box for scrapbooking in the yr 2030.

If I'm not in it it goes into the "mixed paper" bin at the recycle center.

I have 4 full size binders with three or four playbills per plastic sleeve. Sometimes I get a little creative and lay the playbills open... to display a website ive design listed in an actors bio or my name in the MTC playbills from when I interned there. I also collage my ticket stubs together.

i have the ultimate Playbill binders, with all Playbills in cronilogical order, mostly all Broadway, but some notable Off-Broadway, exp. Encores! Follies, NYCO Sweeney Todd, and Public's King Lear. It works for me. I don't mind the investment.

My father on the other hand... He has a playbill collection to die for, all the Sondheim OBCs, short runs like A Doll's Life and The Three Muskateers, and my favorite: A Playbill from the night Fiddler became the longest running show on Broadway. And the sit on a shelf or in a box.

It kills me...

They're in my theatre bookshelf, right next to my Homer award (most dedicated performer in my company) and the large tin foil microphone the middle schoolers made for me when I microphoned their show. The rest of the shelf is full of theatre memorabilia (costume pieces, props, etc.) and junk (closing night gag gifts) and dance shoes, a stack of my cast t-shirts, and a pitch pipe.
